Welcome to Kalune: the Shifting City! New Setting and Subclass!

Thanks for your patience with these releases, heroes! As you'll see from this wave of releases today, time was spent recreating new type styles for use in the upcoming releases of The Griffon's Saddlebag Books Three and Four! I hope you enjoy it, and again, as always, thank you so much for your continued support!

—

I felt the rooftop shiver beneath my feet, a small tremor traveling through the soles of my shoes and up into my ribs, like hearing someone else’s music through a wall. But then the ledge beneath me tilted—just a few centimeters, nothing dramatic—and I knew: the Shifting City was about to rearrange itself again.

Down on the street, the air was always thick with the wet stink of too many bodies pressed shoulder to shoulder. Down there, you were contaminated by every look, every shove, every scrape.

Up here, at the skyline, the wind pulls the grime off my skin.

I take a running start along the roofline. A narrow drop; rolling off the lip of a vent box; pushing away from a slanted panel, still warm from how the Astral Engine changed it last. I don’t think. My body is weight and angle.

Somewhere far below, something groans. The whole city is reconfiguring itself, like a massive animal turning over in its sleep. I’m not scared. The world might move beneath my feet, but I’ll always keep above it.

Kalune is a city built around the ever-changing nucleus of the Astral Engine: a bizarre and inexplicable machine of arcane design that periodically pulls in junk from the Astral Plane. Not just that—the Engine recombines this junk into weird (and often useless) shapes, bringing forth a city-wide industry of making the most of, well, space junk.

The good news is that sometimes this space junk actually comes from the insides of imploded bags of holding, so it's always worthwhile to see what shows up when the city lurches beneath your feet!

The subclass included with this setting is the Way of the Wisp Monk. These Monks pull shreds of their ki from the Shadowfell, allowing them to weave strange and unearthly abilities out of the shadowstuff they control.

Speaking of subclasses, here's a reminder that we also have official PAID subclass playtest sessions on the Discord! So please feel welcome to sign up for them and get early looks and hands-on time with them! As always, further revisions will be made here with published updates as they're released!

What's Included:

  • 19 pages of freerunning gangs, ways to create your own shiftable (and sentient!) hideout, and exciting battle generating mechanics to build around the astral wells created by the Engine.

  • Bonus maps donated by Cze & Peku!

  • 7 new statblocks!

  • New Monk subclass: the Way of the Wisp! Create dark wisps of shadowy power to help you control areas of the battlefield or channel even more powerful magic from the Shadowfell!

Avast is blocking the file for the Monk for some reason... It has obviously gotten some weird mixup false positive
