Great Owl's Pocket Translator

Wondrous item, common

This pocketwatch-sized device opens to reveal a series of small holes. Along the bottom is a dial with labels for "Dwarvish," "Elvish," "Gnomish," and "Halfling." You can use a bonus action to change the dial. While the device is opened, any sentence spoken in the selected language within earshot of the device is automatically translated and spoken again through the device in Common. The repeated sentence sounds slightly tinny, and conveys the literal meaning of what's spoken.

What we got: “You can to me say it how behind and how tall how want you. Still can’t I comprehend Common.”

What she meant: “You can say it as slowly and as loudly as you’d like. I still can’t understand Common.

By “literal meaning” I assume that implies that slang or shorthand phrases aren’t properly translated over? Kind of a lost in translation kind of effect?
