Technical Difficulties
**Update**
Well, that only took three and half days to fix.
If I had any other options, I would have ditched this ISP years ago...but I don't, so I can't. And yes, I have looked into satellite providers, but until they can offer speeds comparable to ye olde copper / fiber line (let alone bringing down the upfront equipment cost), that's not gonna happen. Likewise, wireless internet isn't really an option either...given the 3-bar black hole I live in.
Cadastral drawings are usually limited to parcel (ownership) boundaries and only give a vague location of buried utilities. It's all 'bout them property tax dollars..said the old guy while yelling at a cloud. In this case he was digging in the utilities right-of-way and should have had a locating service come out (which is free when you call 811 and has a 48-hour turnaround time), but couldn't be bothered.
As for what the guy was digging for last week, he was a subcontractor, trying to find a severed telephone line. Most of my neighbors are 70+ years old and, even though they all have cell phones, they still have that 'just in case' mentality when it comes to landline telephones. Personally, I haven't given any money to 'Ma Bell' for almost two decades.

Sorry, there won't be a post today due to technical difficulties beyond my control.
Yeah...
You know those 811 signs, the 'call before you dig' ones? Your country may vary, but here in the U.S. they are pretty much everywhere, warning not to dig nearby because of some buried utility. Power, water, gas, and... Apparently the (idiot) contractor digging in front of my neighbor's house had never heard of said signs...and promptly dug through the fiber optic line that provides internet to the entire neighborhood.
The hole he was digging is literally three f@#king feet from the 811 sign.
ETA for repairs...? Molasses in wintertime runs faster than my internet provider when responding to a repair call.
Cellular is an option, but... I cringe at the very thought of trying to upload multiple 8k-sized files over a cell hotspot in my 3-bar neighborhood.

Buh, sorry that happened. Like…fr, is it that hard to make a phone call?>.@;
That is why we have a permit system here with cadastral drawings.
How does this keep happening?
Because "profit" outweighs everything to the mind of businesses. Even if that temporary profit results in massive profit loss due to negligence and stupidity
First, thank you for keeping us in the loop. I'm sorry this happened, and I hope that your ISP realizes that this deserves immediate attention (Yeah, right. Your ISP is spawn of the devil just like mine. *sigh*)
