Love the tangents, hop off the movie club highway and take the scenic route.

they both said they couldnt get behind chalamet's character compared to sandlers in uncut gems, but i actually felt the other way. I feel like sandlers character is even more out there, just a degenerate gambler who's willing to risk all his financials and personal relationships and own childrens well being to try to win the gambling game, where as chalamet's character is young, less attached and more focused on growing his own personal brand and position as one of the best table tennis players in the world. both selfish assholes but with marty mouser i think i found myself rooting for him more easily because hes actually just a talented and charismatic dude. love both movies though, definitely my type of thing.

Definitely agree with Rocco on the theming. The scene where Marty explains his ambition more like a curse he is saddled with kinda sums it up. The only way he ends up winning is by everyone else around him losing. He is literally a destructive force so much that he breaks through the ceiling on top of a guy’s dog and people around him are getting killed. Several times I felt reminded of Whiplash. I liked the movie but the tactics they used to escalate the drama started to feel kinda cartoonish. The scene where they try and return the dog that turns into a violent stabbing felt like a parody of suspense movies. I wouldn’t even be surprised if that’s what they were going for tbh, but it still felt ostentatious to me.

I like the tangents and I like the movie coverage so as long as there's a decent balance I'm cool.
