AI is bad

Ai is not avoidable, it's used at work, if you use any social media it's there, but art prompts are soulless and on top of it AI generation continues to harm the environment in significant strides. This fun use to make content and posts is just continuing to normalize how often you see AI in art work. It's to normalize removing artists from the work force and heads of studios are money hungry and would love to minimize the amount of humans they have to pay.

The biggest take away from AI tools is "use it or lose it" If youre depending on all of these tools to research for you and write for you and draw for you, you're not practicing critical thinking. You're not practicing any literary skills, no research skills, practice putting in the work for a passion or hobby, you're taking in what ever these programs provide for you, whether it's factual or not, whether it's fulfilling or not. People are also behind art as artists to draw the line ethically. How quick can propaganda be made now?AI tools can be great, they've been in plenty of industries for decades, but for art work you need to ask what is the purpose here? Having time to make art and music is important to being a civilization, when you strip that away all you have left is consuming and working. Just survival.

not trying to be a hater, but I personally find AI talk like twice as bad as "isn't inflation crazy" talk.

just feels like a beaten horse in general, and i feel like rocco is the only one who remotely pays attention to that sort of stuff past the surface level

I encourage all of you to stop using "AI" tools almost entirely. Obviously yeah there are tools being forced on us that you maybe can't avoid, but even many of those (like the google search AI results) can be turned off if you look through your settings. I think the thing that you might not understand about ChatGPT and other "AI" large-language models is that it has no conception of correct and incorrect, or true and false. It does not think or reason through information. It can't understand context that humans can. All that it is capable of doing is looking through the words it has scraped from the internet and estimating what would be the mathematically most likely words that would be said in response to a given prompt. It cannot be trusted under any circumstances. At least the google AI stuff usually just copies answers directly from a website it found, but it has no way of knowing whether that answer was somebody joking around, intentionally giving a wrong answer, somebody who was misinformed, etc. Humans have the critical thinking skills to read context, these models do not. I also don't think it is correct to say that it's "not going away." That's just something the people who stand to benefit from it need you to believe so that you aren't critical of it. Apple keeps delaying their stuff because 1)it doesn't work and 2)nobody wants that shit. Microsoft just reversed course on billions of dollars worth of server capacity it had previously announced that it intended to use for AI. OpenAI (the ChatGPT company) loses money hand over fist (they spent 5 billion dollars last year and made negative 9 billion), has no realistic route to profitability, and has to borrow billions every single year from investors. Eventually that bill will come due and they will instantly collapse. There are a few very specialized jobs that can use very specialized AI models for good effect. Outside of those the technology cannot be trusted, and the amount of water that it uses will be absolutely devastating to our world in the long term.

AI wrote this

I’m with Garrett on AI. Everyone’s gotta decide for themselves how much they let it into their lives. I understand the backlash against the Ghibli stuff, but once upon a time, people filled numbers into a paper ledger. Some people probably got a lot of satisfaction out of it. Then excel came along. Picking and choosing what we get precious about is a recipe for sadness on this, imo.

It's not "picking and choosing what we get precious about", people value the arts. Automating repetitive tasks is one thing, but automating art? Removing the human voice on a form of expression, with an industry solely based upon theft? That IS a tragedy.

AI sucks.

That's like saying technology sucks. It's all progressive in its use and rn AI is being mostly used in a lame corporate slop way . But for artists like myself, it has become a new tool like Adobe, computers, and physical media. Always depends on how you use that tool. I'm with Garret. Most ppl don't know anything about it like your parents don't know about internet culture. But for some ppl that stuff has become jobs and will continue to open new jobs like how the camera advanced to the moving picture. It will always evolve and will not be the endpoint. Ai is cool dog. Just like how computers are used for all sorts of things, AI will be used too. I used to think I would never be able to code or it would take me 5 years to make anything useful like a web tool online that I can for my artwork.but now i can and have made and debug so much that its better that a simple google search where u look for a one off answer. its not google, it can do much more complex task that tell you how many toes a cat has. Oc ai art is shit for many reasons of stolen images. But then again consider how everything is always going to have an influence and nothing can be in a vacuum. If someone wanted to make cartoons but were never influenced by ever watching any cartoon ever made they would likely make something not worth it. But many great artists are influenced by what came before and steal characteristics of what they love. Lol. Tangent. Art will always be stolen, styles will always be appropriated, look at Cartoon Network in the 2010s haha, it all looks the same since that is what the industry wanted. idk dog. Ai doesn't suck. And to diminish its many many possibilities and great potential to change the art for the better by giving the individual more accessible tools to compete with these shit copros making slo[ regardless, it think its fun. dont be old man yells at clouds loljk "ai it a tool for certain jobs" -Garret also 13mini supremacy :3
