Okay, so we have Academy Awards episodes of Movie Club on the way... We're already covering CONCLAVE and THE SUBSTANCE. But what other ones would you want us to tackle?

It would be interesting hearing your thoughts on Emelia Perez. I'm trans and know all about how it absolutely fucking sucks from that angle, but I wonder if the boys being so close to Mexico would give them some insight into how bad it sucks from that angle too
Emilia Perez should have been nominated for a razzi. It's worse than Joker 2 and Madam Web.
I would wholeheartedly agree with the people voting for Anora but the sex scenes might be too much for Shawn.

As Theatre actors yourselves, I think you might really enjoy Sing Sing and get a lot out of it. Many of the actors are actual former RTA members. I found it really powerful.
Sing Sing was one of my favorites this year, I was disappointed it's not nominated for anything but that's the Oscars for ya.
Dune 2 will get the same reactions they gave for Dune 1, give that vote to something else.

Dune 2? I haven't seen it myself, but it is apparently the best movie ever, akin to comparing Terminator 2 to 1.

Brutalist is incredible and would not be surprised if it wins best picture. Regardless of movie club, definitely watch it!!
If you watch Emilia Perez, please check all the controversy (so far) involving the director and the main actress, most of all in Mexico.

The brutalist is a great movie its long but i think its actually interesting tho you would appreciate it way more in imax. The shots are so good.
A Complete Unknown just because it's actually a decent movie that I haven't really heard people discuss outside of the marketing.

Anora is just a great movie and not Oscar bait so that's my vote.
Anora is legitimately one of the funniest movies of the year, I think they'd love it. Rocco and Shawn, if you it doesn't win (doesn't look like it's going to) WATCH ANORA
I'd rather not see them watch Emilia Perez just to hate it like everyone else. It'll be a waste of everyone's time. Nickel Boys and Anora are legitimately great and worth analyzing and exposing to a wider audience.

Also, sidenote: We'd already seen DUNE and WICKED so we'd rather watch other stuff we haven't seen if possible. But if the results are resounding we can always evaluate the situation.
have seen all of these but emilia perez and Nickel Boys is one of the most stunning movies i have ever seen Period!! EASY winner for me out of the group and would love yall to see it too
I'm so disappointed to see Anora at 8% - by far the best movie from last year!! Let's pump up those numbers
Anora is way funnier than you would think it would be! That gets my vote
also (especially if you can catch it in 70mm) the brutalist is worth checking out from a filmmaking perspective. It’s long, but it has a 15 minute intermission with an onscreen timer! So it’s actually more manageable than one might think as well (and now I want every long movie to have an intermission)
Nickel Boys and Anora were my favorite as actual movies but Emilia Perez would be the funniest
