New Video today
I have a couple DCS Dora videos coming, but both deal with historical stuff, the first is primarily about the EZ-42 gyro gunsight. Had this been in service in numbers 9 months earlier it could have delayed the Allied victory in Europe.
At the end of the video I have some images that relate to a poll coming soon here in the Patreon section. When you see the images you may have some questions, so this is my attempt to preemptively answer them. I think the most likely question is:
What are "A" kills and "B" kills?
During and after WW2 the USAAF/USAF Air Material Command had an Ordnance Department that was very interesting in determining the effect of different types of weapons on aircraft. What would it take to "kill" a P-47, a B-17 etc? Different types of weapons and ammo were used and from different angles, front attacks, rear and so on.
When evaluating what it took to "kill" an airplane it quickly become apparent that defining a kill isn't that easy, so they came up with five categories, A through E. An "A" kill means that the plane went down within 5 mins of being hit. A B kill means the plane was still fighting right after taking damage, but couldn't make it back to base within 2 hours. These go all the way to E, which means the plane made it back and landed, but essentially fell apart after touchdown becoming a pile of junk. That's an oversimplification, but good enough for now. The poll to gauge interest in this stuff as it compares to the other possible topics is coming soon.
Oh, the first Dora video is here: https://youtu.be/azsx5pOdF_E Watch in high resolution or you can't see the gunsight info in enough detail.
