Back Home from surgery.
Update: I had back surgery yesterday. I think it went well, basically parts of a lower disk broke off and went into places where they jammed against some important nerves making walking very difficult. I had never heard of such a thing, but apparently it's not that uncommon.
So now I'm home and the recovery period will apparently last until March. This will be the longest period of time I have gone without flying since I got my first flying job back in 1988. Also, I can't do any automotive work, which sucks, airplanes and automobiles are my two main things.
I suppose there are a few upsides here. First, I'll get extra time with the grandkids. I'll also be able to know out videos more quickly. Plus, I'll get caught up on watching youtube.
This not working has me appreciating your support more than ever, so I really want to use this time to put out the videos you have been asking for starting with the Ki-84 videos ( two of them ).
One thing I am not going to do is sell out and start making 12 min long videos (that's the ideal amount of time for revenue on youtube) that only cover a few items. In other words I'm not dumbing down the channel to cater to the masses.
I was prescribed some very strong pain killers for recovery, however I have found that these sort of drugs put me into a dizzy, foggy headed state, which seems worse than the pain. So far I have been able to dull the pain to a tolerable level with just a mild dose of Tylenol. I'm not saying I won't use the stronger stuff if I need it, but so far I haven't. That's good, so if all goes well that Ki-84 video will be up this week.
Thanks for all your support, making videos is pretty much my job for the next 2-3 months so I'll do my best.
Greg

Greg, first of all best of luck on your recovery. You are my first foray into Patreon. I want to say I signed up before I read this post. But I am glad to hear that you aren't going to dumb down your content to make quick YouTube money. Your gift is that you sweat the small stuff. You appreciate detail and the time it takes to develop it. Keep on keeping on.
Take are of yourselfand get well soon
Greg, I know you have a lot of topics queued up, but I'd like to suggest the subject of the turbo-compound radial engines that may have been the high-water mark of attempts at improving the efficiency of aviation piston engines.
Hi Gort, I've been thinking about doing that. My only hesitation is that whenever I stray from WW2 stuff, views seem to go way way down. For example my TWA video has turbo compound stuff in it, and lots of other cool stuff, yet almost nobody watches it.
Having gone through a similar surgery a few years back I can relate. Also avoided the strong pain meds for the same reasons. Wishing you a swift a full recovery.
Get well soon mate!
Considering I like the videos that you produce part-time, I'm looking forward to what you do when you get to concentrate on them! Here's hoping your convalescence is happy and relatively comfortable.
With a team of dedicated enthusiasts working in their spare time and the original drawings, we should soon be able to get you airworthy again! More seriously, I greatly appreciate the attention to detail and the integrity of your work. Take it easy and heal soon.
Take it easy and get well soon! Thank you for your really in depth and informative videos.
Glad the surgery went well and you are on the mend. Take it easy and don't try to overdo it. Here's to a speedy recovery.
Greg, the 6 million dollar man
Greg, please take care of YOU - we aren't going anywhere! I think it's fair to say that you hooked us a long time ago with deeply-researched technical rigor...
Aw, Greg. A ruptured disk is awful. You take it easy. I appreciate the long videos that you do (example - the P47 odyssey you made). If you could find the data for another P38 video, I wouldn’t complain one bit. 😎
best wishes, your current format is the best there is on you tube
Greg we are thinking of you brother.
Glad it went well Greg! Yes please don’t dumb it down at all, your level of research and detail is wonderful and that’s why we are all here. Great job and we love what you do!
Dont get better too fast, I want that ki84 video. Did anyone else read that as home back surgery?
Good luck, Greg. Happy Thanksgiving to you and everyone.
Great news Greg! Pleased your surgery went well. Too bad you’ll have to dial back the butt kicking of FOs from now on!😀
Sorry to hear about your back and wishing you a speedy recovery Greg. Your aero and automotive presentations are gold.
All the best mate. Also, if taking a one hour video and splitting it into five 12 minute videos can make you a little more ad revenue while also help with viewing stats, then do what you must.
Speedy recovery Greg! Backs can be truly awful stuff! (You're clever to avoid strong pain pills if possible). Enjoy spoiling your grandkids 😜
Best wishes for a speedy recovery!
Best Wishes for a fast recovery. And enjoy your grandkids!
Take care of yourself! Best wishes from Italy
Take your time. Best wishes for a good recovery.
love your content. i watch your channel for the information you provide. been in love with aviation technology since i was a kid. don't care how long your videos are. if the subject matter only deserves a five minute video then i'm good. if the subject is more complex and takes an hour then i'm still good.
Glad things went well, and best wishes for a speedy recovery.
Good luck with your recovery. May it be a speedy one.
Had a total hip replacement, self grounded for 6 weeks then back in a duster. You’ve taught me a lot about Thunderbolts that’s a pic of my father on Okinawa in ‘45
Get well … pick up a guitar and get the grandkids in on it! Love your format just the way it is… and I might be looking surgery too. I’m a nurse, don’t let the pain getaway from you…
Take your time and get well Greg. That's what counts, more than anything. I've enjoyed your expertise and hard work immensely and I can wait for more, when you are ready. Thanks again for all you've done so far.
Glad it went well 👍
Greg, I appreciate the detail you give in your videos and I’ll pray for your complete recovery.
