109F SHORT preview video

This is NOT the full video, just a short Patreon exclusive preview. Please give me some feedback on the audio. I know I need to improve my video's audio quality, so this is an attempt to do that. In this clip it's been professionally cleaned up by https://mypodcastlab.com/ , they are here in Tulsa. I'm not really convinced it's much better than my normal audio, but ultimately you guys will be the judge of that.

Greg

Not a fan of the new audio. Way too bassy.

This new audio sounds downright goofy, ultra corporate and sanitized and as if I mixed it for a high school talent show guitar solo. I'd stick to your normal setup.

What happened the video showed up on youtube and while while i was watching the full version it kicked me out and is no longer on the channel

Regular audio is better. I'd be interested in more about the automatic RPM selection. Is that just mechanical linkage to the throttle, or is the governor responding to more sophisticated inputs? I thought the former, but the way you describe it in the video suggests something more. While I am here, I am grateful for the IJA/IJN episodes, and would love one about the Ki-44.

You're right; the "new" sound is very inhuman, I'd prefer your traditional voice.

The new audio definitely sounds a bit more like AI, though I usually listen to your videos while I'm working and there's a lot of background noise so this will definitely be easier to hear in that sort of environment.

I think the new audio sounds ok in my headphones, but i never thought there was anything wrong with the old audio. If you want to try alternatives, a podcast i listen to uses podsworth dot com, which might be cheaper and use a lighter touch on your recordings.

The audio sounds muffled and reverb y. It's almost like I'm listening to it through a door. Your voice is a little harder to hear compared to previous videos. I checked the previous videos and the recent videos do seem to have an audio problem but I would guess its a bad microphone. A few more videos prior and the audio is clear and easy to hear. Did you change something after the latest mustang video?

Great subject, can't wait for the rest. I really like the side-by-side comparisons. Audio has a lot more base and seems to be missing other ranges that may contribute to a lighter sound, or missing background sounds. If this clean up is costly big $$ I wouldn't spend the money. Your previous audio was fine. However, does this audio treatment confuse AI at all? That may be a reason to use it?

Greg, little to choose. New certainly a little bassier(sp).

Josko Franic · March 1, 2026

I like the older better

The audio definitely sounds more “professional” for a modern YouTube channel I would say, and with headphones it sounds very clear. That being said, if it’s drastically more difficult to record I’d say it’s not worth it. Maybe some middle ground between old and new recording methods?

Don't want to start a war here, but I am at Greg's channel for an education not a music recital. Improve the audio if you must, doesn't bother me. Drooling for the full drop🤤

It doesn't sound better.

This seems flat.

W
Woolyrhino · March 1, 2026

I think your existing audio has never been exceptional but agree with Giacomo this is too flat. You can tell it was filtered/altered and it takes some of the warmth out of your voice. I find your original audio more engaging to the listener. Recommend you keep original audio and go back to the drawing board on improvements.

What were the qualms of your previous videos?

G
Giacomo Piccaro · March 1, 2026

Hi greg, the audio is not bad but not great either. I find it a bit flat and all in the low frequency and I really don't know how is going to work on videos like 40 min or 1 hour long. If you want to improve your audio, my suggestion is to set and keep a good and costant volume in the various clips because sometimes it happen that from one clip to the other in the same video the volume bounces up and down.

Douglas Rampersad · March 1, 2026

There's more reverberation, sounding like there's far too much bass and not enough treble. To my ear, it is less crisp than your usual audio.

W
William K Jackson, MD · March 1, 2026

I agree with the previous comments that the prior video sound was fine, and that this present one lacks the crispness and clarity usually in your voice. You have a good following which bespeaks good sound, video, and content. So I don’t feel there is an audio problem to address. Keep up the good work!

L
LocksteinWolf · March 1, 2026

i agree with the rest of the comments on the audio - it's a bit too "right in my face" due to the prevalence of bass frequencies which makes a bit "mushy" and loud.

M
Manu · March 1, 2026

It isn’t better than your old audio to me. It sounds a bit old-fashioned, like a 1980s television documentary, making me suspect that the frequency range was truncated as part of the clean-up.

J
Jim Danko · March 1, 2026

I agree with Ian and Erik, I never had a problem with audio in your previous videos. The audio in this 109F sample sounds somewhat muffled to me, although it's more than just muffled, there's something vaguely mushy about it I can't put my finger on. IMO, I'd reconsider this and go back to normal un-altered audio.

S
Scarecrow Repair · March 1, 2026

Don't like it nearly as much. I am no finicky audio fanatic, and I'm getting up in years and no doubt my hearing isn't as good as it used to be, so my opinion may not be worth much. This sound muddled / muffled, like you're talking through a handkerchief or your sleeve or something.

E
Erik Ehrenfeld · March 1, 2026

I think the new audio enhances the volume so that it sounds uniform throughout, but at the same time makes it sound a bit “wooly” (if that makes any sense at all). Personally, I had no issues with the previous audio.

I
Ian Silvester · March 1, 2026

Honestly I don't see an issue with audio quality in your previous videos. Yes there were clear changes in 'presence' between takes, but I never found that off-putting. This cleanup, to me, has the effect of making your voice sound less natural, so I don't find it an improvement. For me it's all about the content and this one looks like it's going to match your usual high quality on that front.
