Upcoming Trip to Museums
In June, my wife and I are taking a rental RV to a few exciting spots. The USAF museum in Dayton on the 19th of June. Old Rhinebeck Aerodrome on the 21st and 22nd and finally the Flight sim convention in Providence Rhode Island on the 29th.
I am going to use the opportunist to get data for upcoming videos. I'm especially excited about Old Rhinebeck as I think I'll learn things there I can't learn anywhere else.
If any of you are planning to be at those spot and you see me, please say hi.
Greg

Hope you can find time to stop by the New England Air Museum. You have become a source for us old crock docents. You know, the folks who talk the ears off guests.
Thanks for all the suggestions. They are all good, however my wife isn't into airplanes to the extent I am, so I don't want to add a fourth airplane museum. I have been to Dayton a few times, and Huffman Prairie. This is really all about Old Rhinebeck, I have wanted to go there since I first read about it, which was on the back cover of the old board game Richtofen's War from Avalon Hill. The cover had an Old Rhinebeck triplane on the cover. I think the RV will be great, but I'll let you guys know how that works out.
Sounds like a great trip. Very cool you are going to Old Rhinebeck. When I was a kid my grandfather taped a bunch of Discovery channel aviation documentaries. I remember OR and their collection were well represented. Have wanted to go since I was 12.
I am taking the family to Dayton on June19th for the Airshow that weekend. Hopefully I run into you to say hi!!
Greg - two sights to see in case you're interested (these are very 'off the beaten path' type places you'd never hear of but that are worth a visit, albeit they're not at all airplane related): https://opus40.org/ ... and ... https://www.innisfreegarden.org/. Also consider visiting West Point if you've never been and the Roosevelt/Vanderbilt mansions in Hyde Park. (There's a decent museum about Roosevelt there.) And, if you do go to Innisfree, get lunch at https://www.babetteskitchen.com/. They have an amazing BLT (yes, it really is worth a shout out).
Safe travels. Reserve plenty of time for the Natl Museum of the USAF (it’s massive!) and be sure to stop by nearby Huffman Prairie where the Wright Bros. perfected their flying machine (as you’ve covered!)
If you get a chance, stop by the Bradley Air museum in Windsor Locks, Ct. On your way to RI. They have a pretty nice collection and a cutaway R4360! If you decide to stop, drop me a line, lunch is on me!!
I live about an hour away from Dayton, so I am awfully tempted to jump in the car, come up and buy you and your wife a coffee or something. Either way, if you need something, I can be there in 90 min or less :)
Rhinebeck is a special aerodrome. Cole Palen was still around in my early visits. His spirit lives on.. Almost 20 years as I was there last. BTW, If you a detour past Reading, come see us at the Mid Atlantic Air Museum. Work progressing on what is planned to be the only flying P-61. Enjoy your trip and take many videos.
Sounds fun! Have a great time.
I know you're gotten many recommendations but just north of I70 is a great little museum that is restoring a B17. Great little diner at the airport Champaign Aviation Museum https://g.co/kgs/D6Tkj3y
Hello Greg! I'm glad you're making it to the Old Rhinebeck Aerodrome. I live just a bit south in Poughkeepsie and feel quite lucky to have a place flying WW1 biplanes right around the corner.
Since you're in the neighborhood, drop by the New England Air Museum in Hartford. They have a few eclectic things and lots of engines. You connecting with Tom Polapink @ ORA?
RV stands for Ruins Vacations 😁
