Channel News
Greetings everyone. I'm working on a video about a lesser known Japanese fighter, the Mitsubishi Raiden. As with all videos on Japanese aircraft, this one is taking some time to make but I think you will be happy with the final product.
A new sim/game, Aces of Thunder features this plane as a flyable model. The publisher sent me a trial version so I plan to use that for some in cockpit pictures. I'm not planning on making an Aces of Thunder video as the game is not out yet, it's in early Beta so anything I say about it could change before the release. With that in mind, it has a fairly interactive cockpit, not to the level of DCS, but not bad. The graphics looks great, the flight models are designed for beginners. The good news is that it has a heavy focus on the Pacific theater, with many of the war's hot spots represented in the various maps. Hawaii, The Solomons, Midway, and more.
On another front, it seems I'm not the only one battling this "AI" problem. I have seen a number of channels recently, like Ocean Liner Designs and the World War Two channel as well as many others. Youtube is allowing AI made videos to crowd the channel making non AI videos harder to find. For example, and AI slop channel can upload dozens of video in the time it takes me to make just one. They are not making better videos, but they are just crowding the search results. I seem to be the only one noticing that they are doing it my picking from existing videos. I have won four copyright claims, but it doesn't matter, the force of this tide is overwhelming.
Obviously Patreon support helps with this tremendously. I really appreciate it. AI doesn't seem to have a way to get that just yet. I think that at some point there may be a viewer backlash against all of this and people may start migrating to other platforms, Rumble comes to mind. I may set up a parallel channel over there. I have other thoughts on this too, but I'll talk about them another time.
In other exciting news, I think I'm going to make a short video talking about Eric Brown and his Mach limit stuff. I covered that already, and I think a lot of you saw it, but it's time to make that topic a stand alone video.
Thanks for all your support.
Greg

I’d like to request a segment about the Lockheed constitution or the British Brabazon. How about the Sea Hornet? Gosh I love there Videos that you make, Greg. I’ve learned so very much. Your demeanor is so down to earth. Obviously you can teach. You have to be an LCA? Thanks!
I remember building a Revel 1/32 scale Raiden back in the 1970's. Jiro Horikoshi commented, "Compared to the Zero, the Raiden drove like a truck." I look forward to the Video. Other semi-obscure Japanese fighters I am interested in is the family of the Japanese twin engined fighters the KI 45 (Nick) and the KI 102 (Randy).
Thanks everyone. Joe, here you go: https://youtu.be/TWr50TP0CWc I don't know where in this video it is, but I fully discuss the Eric Brown Mach limit stuff.
Greg, Could you consider doing Q&A style videos. I think it would be great considering your knowledge about planes and engines.
Thanks for your kind words everyone. I'm excited about how the Raiden video is coming along. One of the problems is figuring out the plane's performance. The data varies so much it could either be just an also ran, or a great performer. I think I can get to the bottom of that.
Hi Greg! It's just a darn shame about this crummy AI stuff! However, looking forward to the Raiden and the Eric Brown videos! Read Eric's Autobiography just last month, AMAZING guy!
I am a huge fan of some of the lessor known WW-II planes and the P-38 which one of my uncles became an ACE with 7 or 8 kills in the PTO. Looking forward to your Raiden vid with eager anticipation.
I hear you guys. I Rumble channel run in parallel to this one is probably a good idea. I can also talk about stuff there I can't really touch over here. On youtube I have to tip toe carefully with German stuff.
Thank you for all your hard work. Anyone with any sense saw this coming (regarding AI.) Like so navy things happening these days, we see what is happening with all these 'New processes' So many things are getting worse People are getting so antagonistic these days.
Looking forward to the Raiden video! As for A.I. - As soon as I hear the horrible bot voice I hit “don’t recommend channel”. It’s rampant in the automotive space right now.
Greg, off topic, but it’s amazing that this information regarding the “inability of the P-47 to escort the bombers” is still being spread! Hopefully, this guy will follow my suggestion to come to your channel! From a Facebook post: Has no one mentioned that until mid-1944, there was no way for a P-47 to fly round-trip, from East Anglia (or thereabouts) to "deep" targets in Germany (Berlin, Schweinfurt, Regensburg, etc) because they didn't have the range until Republic incorporated a 65 gal fuselage tank (under the cockpit) and "got with the program" as far as getting external gas tanks that mounted on standard USAAF B-7 or B-10 racks/shackles? P-51B-10NA Mustangs began flying those missions in early 1944, by the way. Sure, P-38s with external tanks had the range, but the two most-often listed issues were the sludging of oil in the lubrication system dedicated to the GE-Turbosuperchargers, which caused THOSE to have serious issues, AND, the almost non-existent cockpit heating was very "hard" on the pilots.
Keep doing what you do! AI can’t replace you. But I totally understand the frustration you are experiencing on getting more exposure for your channel, and getting marginalized by AI. Looking forward to the Eric Brown video. In which previous video did you mention him?
Raiden video will be interesting! Like to see you do a Lavochkin piece in the future too to follow up on your great IL-2 work!
YouTube, like Fascistbook (which I left years ago), is all about money (and power) now. And who the hell like those lousy AI videos? Maybe it's a generational thing? My wife and I are in our 60s and we can't stand them. Neither can our kids. Go to Rumble and, I'm sure, most if not all of your viewers will follow. I just wanted to say thanks, Greg, keep up the excellent work.
Nebula streaming service?
I'd like to see other video platforms like Rumble get more content. YT does way to much censorship over content they don't like. Add them allowing theft of original work such as yours, Greg and I'd just as soon do all my video viewing on a different platform. I'll stay a Patreon supporter and watch your videos on whatever platform works best for you.
Great news to see a Raiden video in the works! Very excited to learn about how an ideal airframe faired against the latest US adversaries, and why (as I understand) the Raiden was tricky for new pilots to learn. Wish you the best with the AI - I assume it'll get much worse than it is now, but fighting it will reduce the impact and hopefully make YouTube do something about it.
Google are ****s - just IMO. Completely unacccountable. "Do no evil" Hah ! A viable and practical means of your videos being viewable on an additional platform would be very welcome.
Sorry to hear about the thievery. I try to stay away from the copied stuff. If I get a computer generated voice I shut it off. In an unrelated matter, I’ve seen the claim that the reason DCS uses the map limits for the 47 and 51 is because the 150 fuel was only used by the 8th AF and it would be unrealistic to have it available in game. Do you have any information on the fuel used by different USAAF? I seem to see alot more K4s than I expect to have seen in theater.
Keep on keeping on Greg! We're here because of *your* work and knowledge, not some guesstimating algorithm. As for Eric Brown, I've been waiting to see someone really cover many of his claims about different aircraft and "firsts" among other things. In particular, I think of his claim to be the first to land a twin-engine aircraft on a Carrier (the French beat him there by nearly a decade by landing a Potez 56e onto the Bearn of all things, the US followed a couple years later with a tricycle-gear modified Lockheed Model 12 also beating him to the first claim for tricycle-gear carrier landings.) It would be nice to see some clarity on Eric Brown (and other test pilots) to see what actually makes him a Legend, and what about him is simply "legend".
The Eric Brown topic I'm going to be looking forward to. Ty for tbis fantastic content.
I worry about books as well. If only small details are altered it easy to sell on say Kindle others work. Love you are working on a Raiden video it is almost unknown in mainstream but was very dangerous for any allied aircraft. God help the beginner pilot up against it with a experienced ace in the seat.
I've noticed YT recommending videos I've already seen but with some busty young thing plastered over the thumbnail. The first one or two fooled me and I avoid them like the plague now. But I wonder if that is the best thing to do.
And I keep forgetting to use SHIFT+ENTER to add a paragraph. How do I report a fraudulent channel -- do I have to open their video first? I don't want to give them any clicks.
Keep fighting the good fight, Greg. All of us value your original content, everything else are just pale imitations,
There is no stopping the inevitable tide of artificial intelligence and its catastrophic implications for intellectual property.
