Episode 26 | The Sailor Becomes A Valencian
Hello dear friends,
The internet accès is good here in Cartagena Spain, so there were no issues getting this episode online. A good thing because this is a good one and another side of Valencia Fallas.
My parents left, and I am alone again and it doesn't take me long to meet locals or Valencians. I've been taken in by a crew of artists called XLF by a chance meeting with one of the members named Barbara, aka Barbi. They create fantastic street art. They are graphic designers, directors, musicians, tattoo artists and more.
Barbi has taken me under her wing and introduced me to her friends and local festivities around Fallas. These are real Valencian events where I am the only foreigner or Giri, as they call us. I 'm invited to an oven rice cookoff and a Paella contest hosted in a abandoned city lot. There are hundreds of young people keeping the Paella custom alive with lots of drink and music. I'm sure this is an experience never seen before on a sailing channel. If I could only pass along the flavors.
Big hugs and much love to you all!
Alex.

Hi Alex, among the many things I like about your videos and your voyage is your ability to make local friends and show us a tiny "slice of their life" so to speak. Valencia indeed seems like an awesome place. Hope to get there sometime next year...
Hello Wolfgang. Meeting people and making friends is a big part of the journey. By traveling so slow with a boat, you can have the time to do more than just visit popular sights. Valencia is a must. Thanks so much for your words.
Hablas espanol tambien, Alex? Estoy mucho impresionado.
Hola Andrew. Si, you hablo un poco espanol. Pero es difícil para mi de entender todos. Aquí los españoles hables muy rápido con un acento. Yo digo "Dispacio, soy un suizo" todo veces.
You find the greatest people to party with!! I need to get together with you. Looks like a hell of a good time. Hope you survive this voyage my friend...
I got really lucky to meet the XLF crew. Super "chulo" (cool). I had to take a few days off to recuperate. But more was to come as you will see. Fantastic people in Valencia.
