I Stepped Into A Parallel Universe | From Senegal Sailing To Switzerland Skiing | S7E32
Hello Winded Voyagers
This is the final video of Season 7. After 10 years of posting on YouTube, over 800 videos my channel has been hacked. Hence why I'm posting here. I'm working with YouTube to get my channel back, but the process is long. I will take advantage of this to take a break from posting a video every week. I am now officially retired and can afford some time to pause and reflect on the continuation of Winded Voyage. Rest assured I will be back, just not sure exactly when.
In this Season Finale, I traveled from the sun-drenched coast of Senegal to the snow-covered peaks of Switzerland. It felt like stepping into a parallel universe.
At 65, I returned to my hometown of Verbier for an annual family skiing tradition I hadn’t joined in eight years. Joined by my younger cousins—Boris, Steph, and Antoine—I hit the slopes with a mix of nostalgia and fear. Turns out, skiing is like riding a bike; the instinct never leaves, even if you’re dodging the occasional hungover tourist on the trails.
After the adrenaline, I slowed down for a typical Valaisan dinner and a quiet lunch with my parents overlooking Lake Léman. Switzerland is undeniably beautiful, comfortable, and safe—a "promised land" many risk their lives to reach. Yet, sitting there, I felt a profound contradiction: Why am I, a white Swiss man, running away to Africa while others dream of coming here?
This video explores that tension between the comfort of retirement in Switzerland and the call of the open ocean. It’s a story about family, aging, and realizing that "home" isn't always where you are most comfortable.
Coming Soon: Winded Voyage Season 8. Follow me as I leave this parallel universe behind to sail around Africa. Hold on to your armchairs.
