Episode 36 | Around The Rock Of Gibraltar
Hi Winded Voyagers.
Ever been to Gibraltar? The Rock at the very tip of Spain? Ever wonder what the tiny piece of the United Kingdom is like? You'll find out in this episode.
Me and Daniel are in search of the parts to fix Galopin's steering. By doing that we get a good look of the town and manage to get the job done. Once sorted we make our way cross the straight to Africa. Another continent. Another world.
Big hugs and much love to all of you, Alex.

Dyneema is ultra-high-molecular-weight polyethylene. Translated --> rope that is stronger than steel. It's commonly used in running, standing rigging, shackles, and many other uses (including steering cables). If you go to a chandlery that's worth a darn, you'll find some. Note it is more expensive than traditional material, but for the strength, weight, almost non-existent stretch, and general ease of splicing... it's worth considering and making it a staple of your rigging toolbox. As an example, we've used dyneema for sheets, shackles, trampoline attachment, reef blocks, anchor keep, and a bridle attachment loop... etc. Samson Ropes calls it Amsteel, Marlow D12, FSE even sells small 2mm twine for lashing jobs.
Thanks for this info. Never heard of the material. I'll ask around if it's here in the Canaries.
Sounds cool. Stainless steel is a pain. But what is dyneema? Sound like a new FDA approved wonder drug:-)
Did you consider building a steering cable out of dyneema? Much stronger, lighter, won't rust away while in storage, more compact during storage, and a ton easier to work with...
