I have since I saw the Mental Health is Cringe part, pretty consistently made my bed every day. I hadn't done that for many years.
I've watched this at least once nearly every weekday since it came out. I can't stop. It's so painfully beautiful. Thank you for making this video
Joined the patreon because of this. You are loved. I am very painfully seen. Keep going.
comments are off so ig we come here the vvvvvv clip in the background of the somatics section is FUCKING GENIUS
Hi, Ian. I love this, and I love you. Thank you.
Joined the patreon because of this video. It helped. I'm sure it's going to help other people too.
How is this so well-timed for my life?
I'm so glad you made this public, I wanted to show so many of the small bits to others. Great video and I know it was for you, but there are so many bits that are going to help other people too.
FUCKING LOVE IT. I love you Ian, and I love your brain. The emotive quality of your delivery is such a core element that makes this video, and others, so powerful. Reading through the YT comments actually makes me happy.
Hmmm, glad to have this as a public connection so I can share this idea vignettes with my friends. Would you be willing to add chapters to the start of each segment?
Hey Ian Wanted to let you know a couple things in light of the above. Have you heard GOOD MORNING SUNSHINE By the Narcissist Cookbook? That song gives me a similar mental image as your video, and for me, there is something so cathartic about shouting this song at max volume in my car. I hope it might do the same for you. The other thing I want you to know, is that you are one of 2 creators that I hold in the highest of regards. Dan Olsen's Folding Ideas is the other. The two of you unilaterally have the most interesting of insights when you find something to deep dive into. Dan's channel has, in the past few years, spiraled into topics that I would have completely disregarded if they had been posted by anyone else... but I would watch Dan read a phone book, because I know without a doubt that he would have deeply interesting insights on the topic of phone books. I feel the same way about you. There is no topic you could post about that would not fascinate me in the exact same way, and I would be glad if you could continue making videos without feeling any pressure to do it "right". I am wishing you the best of vibes and hope you are able to find joy in your work again soon.
Hi friend. I signed up here because you asked for help, and that was the kind of slacktivism that I, a stranger, could give you. In exchange, you've given me a rare privalege, the opportunity to write something in a place you had a chance of seeing it. For the first time and likely the last, I am using that. Thank you. I needed to hear this too
I started watching today (I wanted to wait until the whole thing was done), and lo and behold. Say No! More is 93% off. I never ended up recording that script about Capitalism and Fanfiction. I think about it and get wistful sometimes. Thank you.
It was pretty cool when the co-developer of the Say "No!" More game commented on the vid.
It was lovely to finally be able to share this.
Ugh. Painfully relatable. "Mental Health is fucking cringe" is a sentence that I never put together on my own, yet it so clearly and concisely explains why I haven't taken care of my own mental health properly my whole life. I haven't even watched the whole thing yet, but I need to go to bed because if I watch the whole thing now, I'm going to be up late thinking about it. How's that for mental health?
Long time fan of your videos. Finally decided to chip in on Patreon after this at least this once. My partner sent this to me around when it released and I decided to listen to it during my shift. Speaking as someone who rarely gets to cry - There were multiple points where I had to fight myself not to just clock for my break , run to the bathroom and start bawling. This is genuinely the most harrowing thing I've seen in the past handful of months. It speaks to facets of myself that I've only really been able to talk about through obfuscation. Your writing is so raw in ways that I aspire to be in my work. I expected there to be a point where the video leveled out and just allowed me to be comfortable as it has descended to it's lowest but it never did that. It was a barrage of gut punches until the final paragraph. I don't think I've ever listened to something that almost entirely understood my own insecurity and instability as much as this has. Last week I had an extreme mental health crisis that involved me almost destroying my sense of self entirely. And listening to this was probably the most me i've felt since. I know it was never meant for me but - Thank you Ian.
Thank you for taking care of yourself!
I enjoyed the parts as they came out, but as a cohesive whole, this is powerful stuff Ian. You should be really proud of this one, and I hope it was at least not grueling if not outright fun to make!
Shared with my therapist - 3rd time watching this. Thanks so much
Had to pause the video to go ride my bike. Also, the raw emotional honesty of your writing and narration again has moved me to tears and made me feel. In a good way. Thank you.
Amazing piece. Re-subbed to the patreon because of it.
