700 Miles an Hour Into Your Ass feat. Justin Roczniak

For this week's bonus, Justin Roczniak of the Well There's Your Problem podcast joins the assembled cast of Riley, Milo, Hussein, and Alice to discuss the formal and total shuttering of HyperLoop. Because it was never a real thing, but it sure did make a lot of annoying people and related billionaires claim we didn't need high-speed rail!

(Editor's note: there were some serious issues with the audio files which were assembled into this episode, so if it sounds a little funny... that's why)

During peak covid I saw a guy in a puppy play mask walking through town. Absolute king shit. But why would you drink a pint of beer through a straw? Get a nice tiki or mixed drink, so much better through a straw.

Firstly, love the account name. Secondary, dog ban panics are frequently racially coded. Thirdly, the focus on breeds has a strong wiff of Social Darwinism. Fourthly, but can anything about dogs not be eugenics? My understanding is that all existing breeds are only a couple of centuries old. And that they were all deliberately bread. That every dog is a product of eugenics?

E
Elsie Hupp · January 12, 2024

The only non-eugenic dog breed is the feral chihuahua. They’re not eugenic because they are the way they are because of their own sexual preferences (and survival abilities), not the whims of humans.

Very disappointed that there are 1.5 hosts of the show familiar with the rich, original lore of Warhammer 40K and not one of them reached for a lazy comparison to the orks when vibes-based train travel came up. LNER even paint their trains red, presumably to make them go faster.

If I recall correctly, the money for California High Speed Rail got there in the first place through a different series of baldfaced lies. Specifically, there had been funding for a rail link from Chicago to Minneapolis through Madison, and Scott Walker got elected by promising to take that money and put it into the roads. (The federal funding bill specifically forbid this and the money went to Cali). Nonetheless, the good people of Wisconsin struck a blow against their three most hated enemies: Illinois, Minnesota, and especially Madison

To autistically miss the point of the Paul Walker jokes the main reason the crash happened was the fact the car was on 10 year old tyres. Even if they don't wear very much tyres do age out and get too hard which is probably what caused the crash. So if you buy a car with old tyres, put new ones on asap so you don't die in a fireball like Paul Walker.

LOL. This is what ChatGPT came up with. "Precision Steering: The Rozniak Touch Justin Rozniak, a maestro of automotive enthusiasm, would appreciate the 911's steering precision." "the 911 is more than just a sports car – it's a symphony of speed and agility, especially when it comes to conquering corners with Justin Rozniak-like finesse."

speaking of right of way for rail, I was taking a peek at the proposed map for the Windsor-Quebec (politically enhanced Montreal-Toronto route but w/ever) High Frequency Rail project and the disused/upgradeable path they put forward looks like a horrorshow, like passing in the middle of villages and in cuts in people's backyards, just seems like a way to make sure there's as much of a local opposition as possible. Someone should look into that, I just find it odd like there's the French model where you find a bunch of farmers and pay them off to do land swaps and acqusition to build in greenfield and use heavy earthworks to do the rest, the German model where you heavily upgrade existing tracks to reach higher speed, and then the Canadian approach which is like ... heeyyyy you know that dirtbike track behind your house? wellllll it was an industrial rail spur 75 years ago and we have the land title here so! we're going to put down a here high speed electrified double track railroad and we're *sure* you won't mind
