Showing up to my Swiss citizenship test wearing a Seiko: “I’m in danger”
‘Friends of Bulgaria’ is very much a euphemism: ‘The modern English word "bugger" is derived from the French term bougre, that evolved from the Latin Bulgarus or "Bulgarian"’ Congrats on the natals, Nate!
Oh my lord I would love a britainology on the brass eye paedogeddon episode.
'Why is it we can no longer talk about the british isles without the word 'paedoph' in front of it?'
The ultimate British 'it was acceptable at the time' show is Banzai. Truly cursed.
Swiss citizenship is like trying to get into a NYC COOP? wild
You have no idea. People often over estimate the size of switzerland. Everything is smaller. The cities, the roads. Even the deep state is sometimes also the local Bingo club.
"Brian Eno once confessed that he liked to explain to ‘young people’ that, back in the bad-old-low-tech-flared-trousered-analogue days things were so backward that you could fly from London to New York in three and a half hours and men regularly walked on the Moon. He might have added that you could buy an off-the-peg touring derailleur that weighed 145g."
now that I’m a paid sub, fired up to go back to 7 Up and then this. my fellow cultural anthro enthusiast bestie and I were obsessed with these when we came across them. I think we had to get VHS from the library?? Seems uhhh much less rigorous of an experiment now that we’re older, to say the least!
Should have made a 69 up 😖
Hahahhaahhahahahhahahahah funny number
Mildenhall is in Suffolk, not Norfolk
Even just 15 seconds of Milo talking about Peep Show made my day. I have been hoping for a dedicated episode. Would a Peep Show rewatch podcast series be too much to ask?
In my professional opinion you should not screw around with the IRS. However, do keep in mind that they've been demoralized from years of budget nonsense (run government like a business they say), implementing a bodged overhaul to the Internal Revenue Code passed during the most recent period of white minority rule (that's the Trump presidency), and being the only agency up to the task of administering aid during the COVID-19 pandemic. (No offense to the Small Business Administration, but you weren't up to your job.) Also do remember that there are legions of cranks who file utterly insane tax returns with regularity.
there's this (probably fake, but metaphorically true) 4chan greentext by a libertarian who delivers crates of paper records of his transactions to either the IRS or the SEC that's mostly him delivering money between himself, but there's a couple real transactions sprinkled in to keep them on their toes, all to spite the feds. I just find it fascinating how a lot of libertarians love to moan about govt inefficiency while gleefully making the govt more inefficient
As much as I enjoy this, I'd really like maybe a teensy bit of introduction for those of us non-British about what the hell we're talking about.
this is part of a series, go back to 7-up to get the intro
Nice!
Nate, what the hell are you doing working? For these chucklefucks, I mean. Parenting is always working. Which brings me back to WTF are you doing?!
Sometimes you need a respite from the hell of life with a newborn, and what better respite than beholding the gaping maw of hell that is Britain?
I respect the sescruotuj not even being that in depth here. I hope Nate is taking full advantage of his time off and not giving a fuck.
