Shooting and Cry-Laughing feat. Josef Burton
It's the free one!
This week, the gang speaks with author and former U.S. Department of State consular officer Josef Burton about the tendency for liberal institutions to find themselves ordered to carry out illiberal practices—whether it’s Trump’s Muslim ban, the UK’s barge housing, or any other recent story in which we simply cannot believe that we’re obligated to do an immoral thing, for the state. We also talk about a recent news story regarding Russian air traffic safety, and a startup that shifts into dark mode when it can commercialise its ‘harmless’ product.

Currently working a vintage in Burgundy for a couple of absolute specimens, class-blind shitlib expats with abusive labour practices, don’t buy Le Grappin !
its really not a far walk from "thank god *you're* there" to "thank god you're there"
So is London going to provide an acceptable car to those that don't meet their ridiculous standard? Truly a deeply diseased little island.
there's a cash buyout program yeah
Hussein will spend five episodes barely saying a word (or not being present at all) and then will pick one episode to just go off on the cultural analysis
Just coming in to agree that the solution to all of this is for the hosts of Trashfuture to become Providence from the Hitman games
1:04 I think that's a pretty flawed argument because 1) you're just piggybacking on the fact that congress is gridlock to accomplish your goal of keeping a status quo in place, that's just using an implicit veto, how are you gonna ensure that the things you actually want changed are not vetoed back etc etc 2) the democratic body once had power over declarations of war and it took just one bad enough event that it yielded everything back to the executive via the AUMF
"we need a Climate Stalin" [5 seconds later] "we regret to announce you that Climate Stalin's most lukewarm possible policy has encountered a group of US-backed anti-climate rebels"
[apparachik voice] Climate Stalin might have overplayed his climate hand
I do find it hard to sympathise with people struggling with ULEZ when my old car, a 2005 Subaru Legacy with a 3 litre petrol that I paid £900 for was ULEZ exempt. Just never buy a diesel, it was always a scam that they were better.
Haunted by the image of cyberpunk Baz
You'd think for group of who to go on about how "England's the greatest/shit test fackin' country in the world!" They'd actually be delighted to never leave Bexley 😆 Become an Essex Hikkokimori if you love it so much.
Adriana is 51 now.
As a 5 year old Chinese immigrant in the early 90s, I had to sit through an immigration interview by myself as a toddler and answer questions in English which I didn’t speak. I learned from age 5 that the U.S. State Department was beholden to its insane rules. That you would make a 5 year old Chinese kid sit alone with a strange adult from a race they have never seen before except in the movies. I had to summon all my courage as a kid not to freak out because at that age you don’t hang out with strange adults let alone ones of another race that don’t speak your language. And my parents were explicitly not allowed to be in the room. And the US embassy did not allow translators to be present during visa interviews. The US Embassy basically had no protocol for dealing with children in regards to visas in the early 90s, they treated me as if I was an adult and presumed we spoke English. The embassy officer gave up after asking 3 questions and I just kept shrugging my head and trying not to cry.
That's awful. I'm really sorry you went through that.
I have a private joke with my partner about Vauxhall being called Blade Runner, so I'm choosing to believe these fellows in the Mail are very passionate about Vauxhall remaining a high emission zone. Or their Corsas spewing cartoon levels of smoke when they pick up teenagers from school, I suppose.
