Heaven's Gate Café Team feat. Brigham Young Money
It's the free one!
Riley and Alice speak with Jordan and Greg from the Brigham Young Money podcast (@BYMPodcast) about the tech industry in Utah, its hand-in-glove relationship with both the state and the Mormon church, and the ways in which they’re trying to make Silicon Slope a real thing. We also discuss a startup that would have seemed far more at home in season one of TF, which none of us could have predicted or imagined.

University has just become a scam to make people buy expensive coffee.
But Venus has no moons!
Interesting, So this is the first time you've imagined it?
Some people "stealing" refills is probably the least significant loss they'll experience. They'll make up that and more with the wages they steal from their employees
The Five Guys Mecca has been my go to absurd restaurant for a long time
The freestyler is free at work, but it is unable to supply soda water without some goddam flavor. Flat water, yes, no soda water.
SUNY mentioned!!!
The church told people to denounce gay family members, that resulted in a bunch of suicides and the church just makes a 180 like nothing fucking happened. Urge to smash my phone rising
came across this startup a while ago. seems cool. would love to hear your takes: https://www.smartpass.app/
Yoooo Binghamton University mentioned!! I remember that machine in the middle of the dining hall, I only ever used it as an oversized water fountain since that was the only thing that wasn't paywalled
I was pleased to hear SUNY Bing shouted out & derided! Stealing food from the cafeteria run by Sodexo was a leaderboarded sport amongst me & my friends.
great interview, imo the utility of mormon ideology to the national security state is severely under-discussed, same with the evangelical cult around colorado springs' aerospace command center
Reminding me of the infinite copy machine card (long may it copy). At University a friend had a copy machine card that rather than stop at zero... rolled over to 9999. "Hey, let me borrow your textbook (for the amount of time it takes to copy it)."
I used to sneak into the dining hall at my university without paying by entering the basement of the building and going up an elevator. They would have called the swat team on me if they had the smart cups back then
Extraordinary that you made it all the way through that without a twenty minute tangent about Max Weber
Thanks Tom
The refill cup thing is already a thing in some Disney and Paramount parks (don't remember which). Which is some Theme Park level shenanigans : no shade, salty snacks and expensive beverage. Even if it was free the whole environment sucks you dry of money. Watching people in YouTube trying to "game it " is painful, since at most they get a sugary slop and suffer through the whole ordeal. I mean, if you are paying for it at least enjoy in the hedonistic fantasy for a while.
The university I went to in the US has had the cup technology since 2018. Oh the outrage on campus when we all realized the days of repeatedly filling up a water cup with Sprite were over
I used to work at a Noodles & Co and I learned the secret gesture to put the Coca-Cola Freestyle machine into maintenance mode (tap a triangle shape on the Dasani screen)
those are my boys
“If you jailbreak the ValidFill RFID, you know what’s gonna happen to you? You’re gonna have to answer to the Coca-Cola Company.”
Venus doesn't have any moons.
not with that attitude it wont
Alex Ryder you say...
Andreesen Horowitz’s reach spreads far and wide…
