Womenne Doth Be ſhoppinge feat. Dr Eleanor Janega

Friend of the show Dr Eleanor Janega (@GoingMedieval) joins the gang to discuss her new book, The Once and Future Sex, about misogyny through the ages, and how while the justifications change, the outcome is always the same. It is a depressingly relevant conversation to the ongoing campaign of stochastic terrorism carried out against transgender people and immigrants by the great and the good of the country.

This makes me so angry! I’m a former ACT-UP member. The way their treating transgender people is the same way they treated us, like we’re a disease that has to be eradicated. It makes me want to toss myself off our balcony, not that would make a difference. I have the resources to try and make a difference. I honestly don’t know where to begin to help. That’s on me. I’m going to search where I can help. I apologize for my complacency. I have no excuses. I swear, at least for me, that won’t continue to be the case.

The trend towards requiring more qualifications for the same jobs has been researched across a bunch of countries and there's some social theory around it. One is called "maximally maintained inequality" which basically says that the qualifications form a class structure which is malleable only when there is a need for a professional class, then restricts when that class is saturated or during the next phase of labour proletarianisation. You can see this in what's happening to the 'professional-managerial class's at the moment. This has been traced through the history of formal education, from the poor schools in Victorian times, to universal schooling, to the not-explicit-but-kinda-is demands for college education.

Russia was expelled from the council of Europe last year I think, for the record. Re: Alice's comments around 19:20

rly enjoying that Eurocrat mindset that made them just temporarily postblock Russia for doing Donbass and Crimea in '14 and then more recently forgot to notice that Azerbaijan was/is at war with Armenia

Shoutout to the UK political machine and the slovenly morlocks who run it, for which there is no hope.

I guess this was recorded before one of the honourable members of UK Parliament also openly said a key election tactic would be to wage a 'culture war [including] trans debate".

My T-shirt that says "Just asking questions," has people asking questions already answered by said shirt.

During this episode I thought a lot about the great cost the Government has incurred in concealing the identity of Jon Venables.

Any characters in a relationship, and the actors playing them, cannot have an age gap greater than one year.
