Oh Sovereign, My Sovereign feat. Quinn Slobodian
It's the free one!
This week’s free episode is all about William Rees Mogg and James Dale Davidson’s book “the sovereign individual,” which describes a wonderful world in which fifty rich men live in armoured citadels and everyone else scrapes a living off the land. Do not become addicted to water, my friends!

OMG I played a one shot of Paranoia once and hated it so much I walked out. Glad I did. If only I could for this planet.
Maybe I'm just a Grinch this holiday season, but this interview felt like one of the worst instances of Riley's inability to share the microphone when a guest is on. Hopefully Santa brings him the spirit of brevity this year. 🙏
yeah the crosstalk was really bad
Idk Riley, Quinn really sounds like the fakest name ever. Like did they get it from a tv show or something?
Atlas Shrugged imagined a libertarian utopia that merely needed an infinite free energy machine, this books utopia seems to require technology to infinitely clone people and make them immortal.
First infinite energy, then infinite matter, then what, infinite cbt?
Hussain once again jumping at any possibility to say "have you heard of EVANGELION"
What if we become addicted to water but hear me out, water that comes out of the puddle? Wouldn't that be eco friendly and totally straight?
Hell yes Quinn Slobodian!! (And how about trying for Mark Blyth too.) (And Adam Tooze.)
Adam Tooze go on trashfuture. as a christmas gift
The bit in the sovereign individual about nations collapsing because they are no longer able to tax their citizens because everyone hides it in cyberspace is stolen from snow crash which came out five years earlier
You can see Stephenson’s movement in ideology from going “oh that stuff in Snow Crash is a satirical extreme “ to “Actually it’s good and cool and I should have monarchical city states to do these good ideas.”
