3 Easy Payments on a Car Battery to Throw in the Ocean

It's the free one!

This week, Riley, Milo, Hussein, and Alice discuss the end of the Tory leadership campaign, its recent news item on the topic of abolishing the UK’s speed limit, Tesla owners in Norway threatening a hunger strike, the collapse of Klarna’s shaky fundamentals, an examination of why there are a hundred failing electric scooter companies, and much more.

If you’re looking for a UK strike fund to donate to, here’s one we’ve supported: https://www.rmt.org.uk/about/national-dispute-fund/

I bought something on Klarna credit, just so I could be in the class action when they were eventually sued to shit. Gutted they’ve gone bust.

I live in Norway and I genuinely haven't heard a thing about these tesla guys from here, only TF and twitter. So that's the impact they've had lmao

I am still a bit befuddled with the statement that uber is unprofitable. They have previously had a monopoly and currently have a significant market share of a huge market, in my city their obviously profit negative market expansion tactics lasted for months, years and years ago. they have minimal staff and take a percentage of a huge revenue. they are structured to be virtually immune to taxes and even if yu throw all the marketing and so on, I cant see a reason why they wouldn't be hugey profitable. they are privately owned, they release financial information (in my jurisdiction) voluntarily, but it need not be audited. are they not just making money hand over fist and then lying to say they make no money to avoid political consequences in a broad sense?

imo their problem is that they take a very low-margin industry and tried to graft an incredibly expensive tech workforce on top of it. About half of their staff is software developers at or around silicon valley rates

The scootaceous period is actually quite hard to separate from the NOS canister era.

so much depends upon a run-down Tesla filled with rainwater besides the dead Norwegians.

At the risk of telling on myself, the Centurion Card (that's the black American Express card) is a charge card, not a credit card. And yeah it's not exactly necessary, but it does make a certain kind of lifestyle much easier.

Maybe the capital expansion was the friends we made along the way. Or the free money. Probably the frens.

Yeah i mean maybe klarna was a dumb business model but they’ve made basic consumerism far less painful for me.

I paid for so many wild transition goods by splitting it into a bunch of payments, I kept thinking it would be a scam with hideous interest but all of those klarnalikes where just like... they just split it and let you pay for stuff over three months, goods arrived immediately.

Yeah I thought it was a scam too!!! Turns out it was venture capital scam, not a loanshark scam. 🤷‍♂️

I love the fact that it's impossible to make up a 'disruptive' tech company that consists of a poorly implemented normal business with a website; on account of all of them already existing... Cazoo is a 'disruptive' used car dealership with a website... that is currently rapidly hemorrhaging money.

it's comical that with Tesla you can't even say that inspite of being run by terrible people they at least make a decent cars. On the flip side you have SpaceX where it's run by terrible people with terrible ideas like Starlink but you have to admit they are the only US firm that currently can build from scratch rockets that work. I have a strong suspicion that the reason for this difference is Elon Musk is much more involved with Tesla while with SpaceX he acts as the "idea guy" who the people actually doing stuff just patronize rather than taking his big brained bullshit seriously.

it's comical that with Tesla you can't even say that inspite of being run by terrible people they at least make a decent care. Somehow it's unlike SpaceX where it's run by terrible people with terrible ideas like Starlink but you have to admit they are the only western organization that currently can build rockets that work from scratch.

oh baby you better believe I'm gonna leave a "ban all cars" on this one

Exactly, so we can throw those batteries in the ocean where they belong
