Doctors’ Advice: Drink 14 Gallons of Water Right Now (feat. Mattie Lubchansky)

This week it’s Milo, Hussein, Nate, and Alice, joined by special guest Mattie Lubchansky (@lubchansky), and we’re discussing the UK’s energy pricing woes. Which are solely related to privatisation. Which everyone can see coming and nobody is going to do anything about. We also discuss an app-connected water bottle that sometimes tells you to drink enough water to kill you if its sensors are off.

There’s a special smart segment in this episode in which Riley speaks with Dr Craig Berry about the disasters of privatised pensions. If you enjoy this discussion, Craig’s book is available here: https://global.oup.com/academic/product/pensions-imperilled-9780198782834?cc=gb&lang=en&

1) how is it possible for Milo to spend that much on food and still be thin as a rail 2) reading In The Beginning Was The Command Line by Neal Stephenson at a young age turned me into a life long tech-conservative and I have *never* bought some e-garbage that I then never used edit: wait that's not completely right i picked up a raspberry pi that my friend wasn't using and proceeded to myself not use it

1) is easily answered by "Riley makes him eat at small plates restaurants"

Forest really works for me in terms of putting my phone down

AliExpress is constantly tempting me with cheap useless tech. Currently I really want a smart chip that I can stick to my fingernail and do something to my phone with. They also have an Islamic prayer Tasbih counter smart ring which I think someone should buy Alice, although all it does is vibrate five times a day.

I have a 3Doodler pen and it's paid for itself solely in repairs I've used it for. It's like soldering but for plastic, great for fixing headphones.

You may laugh at the water bottle but my gran kept fainting due to dehydration and refused to take any advice like "drink something other than coffee or wine". Luckily she is a sucker for doing whatever a computer says. I buy her a "smart" water bottle and suddenly no more emergency calls at 2AM

I got roped into smart lights. All I can say is that having the switch for your lights on your phone is nice for bedtime, automations are dogshit, nothing that can't be solved without timers and dimmer switches. Fun colors are fun though, I guess.

My dumbest tech purchase thingy was when I backed the OUYA kickstarter and still have it.

Ouya? More like OuNo!

Light, it turns out, does NOT bounce off of water. Who knew? Thank god for that app.

The silliest tech thing I've bought is probably a combination tablet and "laptop" that stopped being able to update itself due to storage limitations. I was not immune to propaganda.

31:00 I feel your pain, Mattie. I backed the Kickstarter, got the pen, 3Doodled exactly one thing, and I believe it's currently sitting in a drawer in my parent's house.

To Alice Catalytic converters have very poor sodium absorption so your emissions will remain pretty salty.
