Britainology 38: Jeremy Vine (feat. Jeremy Vine)
In this special edition of Britainology, Nate and Milo traveled to BBC2 Studios to interview the man himself, Jeremy Vine, in order to discuss how he keeps a straight face when asked to arbitrate questions such as 'should a panel of mums decide all criminal punishment in the UK' and 'is your tea kettle as loud as your lawn mower (please bring the lawn mower into your kitchen for a comparison).' Hope you enjoy!

Right well this was weird
Jeremy and his brother Tim were at The Fall's last London gig where it all went a bit weird with Mark E Smith mumbling into a mic behind the stage while his girlfriend strutted around on stage in a threatening manner. He was not a well man but I certainly didn't expect the Vine brothers to be fans of The Fall.
Wait... the things they talk about on britainology are real?!
Scary innit?
I'm... not sure I agree that the reason vaxx deniers were vehemently anti-vaxx is that their voices weren't heard. I can't remember a single day going by without their voices screaming out through various articles in every news medium it was possible for them to occupy, and it was always much more levelly treated (in their favor) than they deserved.
Waiting for the tf x vine radio 2 show now.
Jeremy Vine on main Trashfuture when. He'd find it inscrutable, it'd be great.
This was so incredibly charming
I could feel your souls leaving your bodies when he started talking about binmen. Amazing.
Make this a regular feature please
I'll be honest, I was expecting this episode to fall very much in the category of 'a tough listen full of horrible awkwardness that produces some fascinating insights into brit brain' but genuinely this was a really fun listen, next step is to get him on da YouTube zone
I know for a fact that Milo's brain kept wondering if this is real for the entire interview
Listening to this feels like a fever dream, but Jeremy Vine seems to be a very cool guy
Hello! A long time listener first time caller here! Just put down the cash for the patreon subscription and this was the first post greeting me. Absolute master act, well done.
I thought this was going to be an extended bit until I started listening
ngl I only knew about jeremy vine from milo talking about him but what a great guy.
how in the world have yous managed this
Ainsley Harriet when
just… how.
Congratulations TF. You live in a Society.
This is mental how the fuck have you done this
I thought I was losing my damn mind when I heard the voice of the man himself
It took me about 10 minutes to realise it was genuinely Jeremy Vine, great work
Absolute master class on the pitch, tears in my eyes, the lads deserve it
Seeing the name this is a psyche out right?
sorry i simply refuse to believe this is real
Very cool
Great interview! JV seems quite pleased you'd managed to nail down the essence of his show. I'd be curious to know what (if any) guests have been cut from TF but I guess that's probably too much of a peek behind the curtain.
(Nate here) I think it’s more a consensus thing where if anyone has objections to a guest based on their past behavior or positions we either opt to not have that guest on or, if it’s not as severe, allow the host(s) who’d rather not be on for that episode to be excused
What just happened?
Holy fucking shit
Jeremy honestly feels so natural, and you gel with him so well. It does feel very surreal to begin with, like the whole TF universe has spilled out over into reality.
Spent the first 5 minutes trying to work out if this was a bit. But it's the real Jeremy Vine
Ayyyyye
This is incredible.
when i heard...... his voice...... just start talking ... i lost it, this is ridiculous
Amazing
what
Fuck yes
am i awake right now
This is fucking surreal
The Irish Republican parody you alluded to is called “Kinky Boots” and features the lyrics, “when we go on night patrol we hold each others hands/ we are the British Army and we’re here to steal your land” It’s one of the more whimsical pro-IRA songs
I saw the tweet about this and have been hopefully ever since.
Nate - the previous time the Cubs won the World Series was 1908, and the previous time they appeared in it was sometime in the 40s, not 2003, when they made it to the NLCS and lost in dramatic circumstances.
I lived in LA for 7 years or so, and the idea that people get possessive about street parking is absolutely alien to me. Between arbitrary times for "street cleaning" (that never seemed to happen) on different streets and sides of streets, the sheer number of people looking for street parking, and the narrowness of side-streets, I generally had to park at least a block (LA blocks being about twice as long as your average urban block, where I lived) away from my apartment, and often more like two or three. I also just kept $500 a year in my budget to pay for inevitable parking tickets, because sometimes it is easier to pay $100 for leaving your car on the arbitrarily closed side of the street after working overnight than it is to wake up and move it. I ultimately just got rid of my car because it was easier not to have to worry about one.
Also as a Philadelphia native, we will also steal traffic cones and use them to mark parking spots. And in my neighborhood the roads are so narrow people just park on the sidewalk.
Parking on the median aka Philly Parking
No fucking way
Overjoyed you guys were able to get Jeremy Vine on the show, it was a very enjoyable entertaining episode.
this is too good to be true. This is somehow an April Fool's joke. Very Excited
Best live music show I was ever at was in 1989 at the Queen's Theatre: an acoustic evening with Elvis Costello and Nick Lowe. Each did an hour solo, then another hour onstage together. Magic!
Talk about a Britainology scalp!
Again a great feast for we humble hogs
