Britainology 37: British Sex Scandals (Live feat. Juliet Jacques and Riley Quinn)

We recorded a live Britainology in London earlier this month and brought on special guest Juliet Jacques (and regular guest Riley) to discuss British sex scandals past: the Profumo Affair, Keith Vaz, Derek Mackay, and--of course--David Cameron's pig liaisons. Hope you enjoy!

I actually got a real chuckle out of the "I accidentally planted my tulips in May" bit 🥲 (the bulbs have to go into the soil before winter bc they need to freeze before they can flower the next spring)

I found the video of Neil Hamilton getting pelted by fish while dancing in a perspex box. Johnny Vegas: "You sicken me! As a human being!" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rznbROVUiv4

I first heard of Keith Vaz when he tried to get the computer game Manhunt banned (was that him?)

I'm quite surprised there's been no mention of Dolphin Square, insofar that it's the one time a noncing scandal turned out not to be true.

I agree with Milo that Cameron is way to boring to have fucked the pig. Piers Gav definitely attracts weird posho sex nerds who want to dress up and play debauched, but I think the majority of people involved just want to get fucked up on overpriced drugs with their mates in a field

“how vaudeville so much of it ends up being” - there’s prob a PhD thesis in how Britain has never recovered from the music hall.

Re: the Garden's Question Time talk at the start, it's understandable to interpret it as a bit when the hosts genuinely have names like Pippa Greenwood and Bob Flowerdew. Absolutely incredible.

https://www.siemens-home.bsh-group.com/ie/appliances/laundrycare/washingmachines this is a tremendously dumb thing to be aware of this existence of, but at least we know Juliet isn't a washing machine salesperson

I was waiting for the House of Lords scandal the entire time, as a non-UK person this one truly blew my mind https://youtu.be/jA3jeCIodPU
