Line Wins. We'll Get 'Em Next Time
It's another joyful discussion of the withering of the state, although we also talk about a startup electric bus company and rejoice in the tales of the Tory MP who 'accidentally' viewed porn in the chamber of the House of Commons. We very much hope you enjoy it.

I can't tell if y'all mispronounced Denis Villeneuve name once and kept doing it as a bit or if it's just a blind spot (he's French Canadian so it's pronounced in a fucked French way). Kinda would be funny to always pronounce it wrong while insisting on pronouncing Walter Benjamin's correctly.
Let's say you're searching for the first three letters of "tractor"...
Did milo eat throughout that episode?
I'm pretty sure the michael kill episode was the one with mattie lubchansky and dan about nfts
While trying to find the Michael Kill episode I typed "Trashfuture bouncer" into Google and got the Wikipedia article for flat-nosed geezer Dave Courtney instead. Had to laugh at that one.

okay, okay, so in relation to the Christmas Carol ghost fucking joke in the first minute i have to point out that there was actually a porn adaptation of A Christmas Carol made in the '70s called The Passions of Carol. writer/director Shaun Costello was such a big fan of the book he set out to make an ambitious authentic adaptation that ended up bombing he was so intent on sticking to the spirit of the book that he made the Ghost of Christmas Future sex scene utterly miserable and depressing to the extent that it turned off the raincoat audience the movie was supposed to be aimed at. fucking weird film. also stars Sonny Landham from Predator.
I'm glad this was posted before the episode where one can find the Michael Kill origin story.
Ooooooooooohhhh that comment about dementia patients being ideal amazon workers is EXACTLY what the swedish state has done with Samhall, a state-owned company which "provides jobs to people with disability", which is to say exploits them by overworking and underpaying, in the process worsening labor conditions for ALL say cleaning companies since they cant compete with the state. It's so bad that they're literally killing people, as in overworking them to suicide https://da.se/2022/05/jolyne-tog-sitt-liv-med-samhallkladerna-pa/ . It's so fucking bleak, and I think it's absolutely something you can do an episode about.
I love how it's "this is modelled on black pirates that used to moor in Cornwall in ancient times" but the right wing history narrative ala. Olympic opening ceremony that we're told across multiple history programmes, is that black people somehow didn't exist in this country until the 60's.
Nobody tell Sir Morien.
Well, at least that parliamentary didn't inquiry about what was going to happen to that figurine and glass jar, nope.
Yet more evidence that Morris dancing was invented by Chris Morris as a Brass Eye prank that went too far

funnily enough blacking up WAS actually used to avoid being recognised in the dark by thieves and saboteurs - for much of the 18th century it was a capital offence. not sure that explains the "Britannia Coconut Dancers" though
18th century Brendan being cancelled by the window tax wokerati of the office of the thief-taker general
The idea of a 70 year old amazon worker has truly made me embrace the ideas on mortality set out in the song "My Generation"
Wrt Morris dancing: isn’t there a Fall song that references this? I only just realized this a second ago. (It’s ‘Garden’ I think) Also I see how the ‘blackface was just people pretending to be coal miners’ is sort of a ridiculous explanation, but the logic of that interpretation is clearly an example of saying too much instead of too little (‘you see by performing brutal manual labor the miners were becoming black people’) etc.
I was wondering why that closing song was familiar and it's because it is a rip-off of Melanie https://youtu.be/lKcpodt0YCU
The original Brendan Grace single gives her the sole songwriting credit and sounds closer to her instrumentation.
The nonsense story I'd heard to justify Morris dancing was that it was camo worn by poachers. I'd always assumed it was one of those super-old traditions that we don't really know the origins of and was rejuvinated when it began to read as racist.
Hitachi, maybe?
antisurveillance blackface is such a cursed idea

I’m constantly having to explain why I have a semen rep coming to see me (I am a dairy farmer!)
I gotta see a man about some semen *wiggles cigar*
