Netflix De-FAANG'ed: the Economy is Real Again

It's the free one!

This week, Riley, Milo, Hussein, and Alice discuss even more police-related ideas from UK politicians, a terrible startup from Australia, and the recent news that Netflix’s share price has collapsed due to–big if true–the fact that they don’t make any money. Hope you enjoy!

So one of the companies I work for uses an app called Homebase where it uses GPS to let us clock in at the different Warehouses we work. It also allows us to get our pay check early if we need it. They even advertise that your boss doesn't know that you did this. There isn't an apr or charge to do it. They just take it out of your check when it comes. It sounds similar to the start up not sure if it is greasy but it seemed weird.

The most british policy is running out of prisons because you sold them to a property developer to turn into flats

the only people I've seen upset that a show was cancelled are animu weebs that got mad that their mango adaptation were not renewed so maybe Netflix had just too many shows

90% of ads in Australia are either for predatory loans or gambling

Glad to know my irrational hatred of Kent, despite having never gone there, is in fact rational

I'm from Maidstone and over the past couple of years have been telling people, exactly, that Kent is 'the England of England' People immediately understand what you mean, especially when I lived in Wales. Kent Britainology!!

There could even be an accompanying Kent Midwestology, but we don't have a ton to talk about, lmao

Jesus I literally saw 3 ads for Beforepay between the tram and my house. I was trying to work out if it was like a precog lay buy system…

delightfully enough your mention of "trundling" away from Australia worked well seeing as there is a small Australian town called "Trundle" that has an annual ABBA festival

As your resident Hollywood correspondent, I can attest that regular television programming is only built to fill the space between ads. In a way, this will restore TV shows to their original intended broadcast format. There's literally break points in TV scripts, marked with scene fade-off / fade-on, for the ad breaks. Found that out 20 years ago, when aspiring VFX intern (me) gets his first Star Trek script to work on. Utterly confused why I have to animate almost the same shot twice. Because they build mini-cliffhangers around the ad breaks....

Riley has become the Bolsonaro of the pod, only the sacrifice of a thousand IR graduates a day allows him to cling to life
