General Carter's Lonely Hearts Club Band
Our politics and economy has once again found itself hitting the bottom of a large hole - and their solution is to dig up! We revisit some troubling developments at our old friends Netflix, Peloton, and THG, then we read an article about sending in a hot British general to fix up Downing Street.

I'm sorry Nate but hydrogen trains are a gimmick unproven gadget for railroads who are too chickenshit to adopt the solution that has 170 years of proven track record: putting up wires that carry electricity and that the train can access via a pantograph. Looking into the hydrogen production cycle is like scrolling left-to-right on a Hieronymous Bosch painting
Great episode by the way.
So witness Tobias Elwood and every other right wing politician glorifying the military with this dynamic in the back of their minds (ie, when the military take-over, it's better to have been on their side beforehand).
The presence of Army General's in Downing Street is the inexorable logic of the Fascist tendency within the Conservative Party. I think the teleological view they have is: 1) We must implement these semi-Fascistic policies to protect our concept of how society should be organised. 2) The policies don't work and thus our politicians are continually exposed for their venality but in reality what is being exposed is the ineffectiveness of what they are trying to do. 3) Because the politicians are then seen as the public face of their project they then introduce the military as the proud face of their politics to replace the venal politicians by slowly integrating them into the oligarchic class. 4) We divest ourselves of the democratic facade and finally we have what we want. Pinochet style politics with Friedmanite economics. The problem with this is that you then create a military which eats the oligarchical class, unless you can consolidate the military into your oligarchy.
We had a retired general in charge of our vaccine distribution pan here in Ontario for awhile. After earning $20k a month for a year or so he resigned having accomplished nothing.
im in montreal and i would always get ads for the vaccine rollout in fucking ontario while quebec would ever so slowly open the appointments to new 5-year tranches of the population so for one thing he successfully pissed off this here french canadian. surely a key consideration and electoral selling point for high office in ontario.
after the previous anti-milo comments at the start of the last pod, milo literally hooting like an ape over riley as he attempts to start the podcast feels like self-parody
Every time I hear you try to find a way to describe Liz Truss, my terminally American brain goes, "Why don't they just compare her to Kyrsten Sinema?" and then I recall that: A. One of the great privileges of not being Americans is never needing to know who any Senator is, and taking that away from someone is deeply unfair to them. and B. Liz Truss doesn't make a habit of screwing over her own party in legislative matters. Still, the two do have a similar kind of energy, even if Sinema leans in on the "What if a box of pastel crayons shopped at Hot Topic?" aesthetic in a way no one else quite equals.
Young Liz Truss at Occupy in black bloc is a very fun image

The true the discourse we need to get to the bottom of is whether Bridget Jones is a milf.
I'd say it's fairly canonical that Bridget Jones is indeed a milf
Gonna need Nate to edit in 7 min of the Uzbek national anthem for this one
