The Great Train Robbery feat Gareth Dennis

The gang talks all things rail with with railway engineer and the host of Rail Natter, Gareth Dennis. We go back into the history of how Britain's railways "got like that," and how government plans to centralise and revitalise Great British Rail is just a coat of red white and blue paint over (you guessed it!) giving money to scammy start ups.

Absolutely brilliant show. Thank you. Gareth covers all the insanity so well. Couldn't this one be set free into the free-one universe?

Gareth almost sounds like an Anti-Elon-Musk. Supporting public transit by doing the fucking reading so he can shut down extremely dumb guys who've read a third of a Wikipedia article.

Just listened to this one again and it gets better. What is amazing is that your comedy podcast and Gareth are doing more to hold the government to account than the army of well paid columnists employed by so many of our Great British Newspapers. Keep up the good work!

When the guest referred to TF as "a horny podcast" I immediately thought "Lynn, these are sex podcasters" in Milo-impersonating-Alan-Partridge voice So uh, thanks for that Milo

the stated ideology of the political class is that there is absolutely no connection between how much money you give public services and how well they are able to function

“Matt Hancock goes to model UN” has the energy and vibe of a very interesting show I found about recently called “Tommy Lee goes to College.” This is a good thing

Oh fuck, I remember that show! Like early mornings on T4. Very odd. I remember him doing marching band stuff on an episode which was fun.

It's also wonderful how the ruling class forgot that it spent roughly 5 years publicly abusing an old man, telling the country he was gonna do pig iron smelters to them, because he wasn't one of their inbred pedo friends. There used to be a train to Bude in Cornwall near where I live right until about a few decades ago, I think. I originally had no idea. It kinda made me furious know we used to have that, considering how much of a nightmare it is to even get to Exeter by bus or car. There's been a campaign to bring the rail back here for years now. People really want it. It would be so good to to just hop on after a quick 10 minute bus ride, as opposed to the 20 minute car journey, followed by 2 hours on the bus.

A wizard can run rails. In the books The Hogwarts express stoping half way and everyone get on to a rail replacement Bus

Oh, you sweet summer children... A design sprint is something even more horrific than merely a two-week feature-cycle: It's a lobotomized five day "feature"-"cycle" where instead of following the standard cycle: idea -> implement -> launch -> evaluate, you cut out actually _doing_ anything and just have an idea and evaluate it, presumably by reaching out to a wizard to get them to tell you how the idea would work.

Given that designing crossovers is a sizeable part of my day job, this is correct.
