Bouncing Back

Yet again, Riley read a piece of literature nobody else would touch, in order to inflict it on his friends. We read Starmer's Vichy France pamphlet "The Road Ahead" about how he's bounced back and he's a serious politician now, because he has written a 11,500 word essay of inadequate plans.

oh man hearing Milo's disbelief at Liz Truss being appointed Foreign secretary is hilarious knowing she was going to be prime-minister within a year

I think the Adam Curtis stuff is spot on, right down to the weird co-opting of Curtis's concerns about hyper-individualism. I think he just kind of watched Bitter Lake on 1.5 speed and decided that that'd be enough to sooth the big mean scary "left". Like - "Ah bugger, what do Corbynites like? ... Hmm, oh, Adam Curtis."

Off-topic, but I just saw an announcement that the BBC are making a real-life drama series in which Steve Coogan is to play Jimmy Savile, and I can only think that there are secret TF listeners within BBC Drama keen to inspire a new bit for Milo

full pointdexter mode but VW was fudging its nitrogen oxide emissions to increase fuel efficiency so in a way you could say that they broke the law to reduce CO2. but nitrous oxide is really bad for you so it's moot. also ban all cars

Albo is definitely Starmer. If anything Keir has taken inspiration from the spineless, weasel worded stand for nothing Australian Labor Party!

Keir Starmer is the dude with the fluorescent bucket hat who asks to borrow a rizzla, a filter, some backy and then a lighter... and then if you're selling bags

Being that guy but the Maginot line worked. It did exactly what it was designed to do allow the French army to hold the German border with 3rd rate le Baz's freeing up the real army to go fuck up the Germans in Belgium . Unfortunately they went to the wrong bit of Belgium.

Gotta say Milo is kind of missing the point about the gas shortages: Rural/townish areas are where both a) the distribution networks and general infrastructure hasn't been maintained adequately, and b) it's where people are actually dependent on cars. Londoners have greater assurance both of gas stations having gas stocked, _and_ of public transport being reasonable available should the gas run out.

Yeah, that was my feeling on this too. My family live in like, semi-rural Wales (when the five mile limit was in place during lockdown, lots of people were like "well I guess I'll be breaking the law then since the shops are six miles away") and there's definitely been a run on petrol and diesel, but literally *everyone* drives, everywhere. There's one train an hour to the nearest town and it's cancelled half the time, what else are they supposed to do to get to work?

I live in central Leeds and can confirm that the petrol stations I saw were at best a little bit busier. No road blocks or real queues to speak of

The description of Corbynism as "wanting to do things and identifying who will need to be confronted to make those things happen" and Starmerism as "just wanting everyone to get along" was well said.
