Britainology 23: Alan Partridge
The previous file issue has been fixed
This month's $5 Britainology involves Milo forcing Nate to watch an incredibly awkward episode of I'm Alan Partridge and then helping him talk him off the ledge. We also explore how Partridge is not all that exaggerated a version of a British radio DJ, replete with some Richard Madeley and Jeremy Vine all-time classics.

This has made me understand the beef and dairy network podcast much better
Jeremy vine... my fucking god. Makes Australian talk radio seem normal.
Brass Eye?
Brass Eye would be a great episode
Outside of my gf and myself, not too many folks have heard of Peep Show in central Ohio.
I arrived in London a little over a week ago and finally running into someone who's seen the show after being so into it when I was in college in Wisconsin is revelatory.
Also I'm listening to the Jeremy Vine segment right now and I think I'm having a stroke.
I'm with Nate in that I hate cringe comedy but for some reason I can cope with Alan Partridge. Possibly because he reminds me a lot of my dad?
My brother loves Alan Partridge. But I'm like Nate. I can't stand cringe comedy. I appreciate Partridge from a distance
RE: Noel Fielding. Not a sex pest but well...I've heard he used to like them young...put it that way
Further reading should include the blueprint for the I, Partridge book, Tony Blackburn's 'Poptastic'
Also, I gotta ask Milo, if he reads this: What's your stance on Saxondale?
I’ve never really watched Saxondale tbh! So can’t comment - Milo
Okay, I think I just had an aneurism from that Jeremy Vine segment. Fucking hell 😆 It's a shame about Boosh. I really loved it (and I too was into the goth girls at school, but didn't have to pretend to be into it), until looking back recently and recognising the blackface and the awful transphobia in the second series. Which if I remember was the most beloved of the three. 😬 I would totally be up for a Peep Show deep dive too.
Been bonus feed for SEVERAL months now and none of the tf cast have personally befriended me yet what's going on is it a british thing
I really love how Milo referred to certain kind of comedy as gauche (left) and maladroite (not to the right).
Cook pass babtridge
Obviously tangential to Partridge but Jeremy Vine sounds so much like Chris Morris' 'Wayne Carr' it's frankly disturbing
I used to run from the room/even leave the cinema when I was a kid and found something extremely cringe.
I still do the former, it's awful
Loved That Mitchell and Webb Look, absolutely cannot do Peep Show. Also it was House of Buggin' in Texas too
I think the American equivalent to those British radio call in shows is probably C-SPAN's Washington Journal. You'll have a policy person, reporter, scholar, or some other type of expert forced to sit and listen to the most batshit questions from insane callers and the host has to figure out a way to bridge the gap. Haven't seen it since the Obama years but I'm sure it hasn't changed.
Legit can’t believe Jeremy Vine is real and not an extended Milo bit
level 42 slaps
had a friend in high school who would constantly quote "that was classic intercourse Sonya" at me and I'm only just learning now that's from partridge
Please do an episode about Peep Show. One of my favorite shows but I'd like to hear about it from a Brit perspective, I know there's stuff I'm missing about what type of guy everyone is
Steve Coogan X TrashFuture needs to happen
There's a brilliant satirical talk radio show called Down the Line that was on the BBC years ago. Definitely worth a listen for anyone who found the Jeremy Vine clip funny. https://fourble.co.uk/podcast/downline
Just discovered they did a lockdown special last year which was a massive surprise after 7 years off air
AW YEAH
"Why do we need bricks anyway?" nearly killed me
