Sex Minidiscs: TF Reviews 'Strange Days' (1995)

This week, Milo, Nate, and Alice watched the 1995 Kathryn Bigelow film STRANGE DAYS, in which Ray Fiennes is a lovelorn memory-salesman hawking minidiscs that let you experience other people's consciousness. It's a bizarre document from the time in which its made, it's a film with cult status in certain quarters, and it posits the notion that to get over your problems, you need Angela Bassett to kick your ass. Hope you enjoy!

Hot take but The Hurt Locker still holds up and is pure sensory cinema. It only looks bad in hindsight due to the fucked politics (and surprisingly boring pacing) of Zero Dark Thirty and it gets lumped in with it just because it’s also a war movie. Also it does lose some of its power when watching at home. Bigelow is an underrated provider of big movie magic

Why is this flick so impossible to stream?

this film's gotta be most known for providing the titular sample in "Right Here, Right Now" by Fatboy Slim, right?

Kathryn Bigelow is a great filmmaker, who makes bad films. Her politics make for insane plots, but at least the movies are still fun to watch.

Milo asks how a man can be called Tom Sizemore and not be in porn. Fun fact, Tom Sizemore did in fact have a sex tape out in the early 2000s.

You defo gotta do Equilibrium. Nothing more mid 2000's than Kung Fu Catholic-ass looking warrior priests trying to stop you from looking at paintings, in case you get feels. It's garbage and yet I still enjoy it.

Equilibrium was your favorite film on release if you loved the matrix but it kept making you feel certain things so you needed a film about dudes learning to feel emotions and doing violence which WASN'T about being trans

Yeah, I prefer Cronenburg Crash over Lib Wet Dream Crash. At least that was a 90's film that did horny shit right if nothing else. Also, Juliet & (her band) the Licks = Yes Juliet Lewis doing anything else = nah

Cronenberg’s Crash is such a great documenting artifact of pre-Condo boom Toronto. That dirty, post-industrial period is unrecognizable now.
