John Bull’s Other Occupation feat. Arron Merat

It's the free one!

Alice and Riley speak with returning guest, journalist Arron Merat (@a_merat), reflecting on twenty years of cruelty and institutional failure on the part of the British state and its bloody imperial adventure in Afghanistan. We look deeper into the domestic pressures, economic and psychological, that made this all happen, and look at some of the attempts to actively forget what we have been doing.

I was only 6 in 2001 but even I remember them talking about “building democracy” or whatever, and then Biden comes on TV and says “our objective was never nation-building 😌” like huh???

The Taliban, whilst fucked vibes in their own way, I will morbidly enjoy for a moment the entire ruling classes of Imperial nations, being owned by a bearded guy in a long coat armed with nothing but a knife, an AK, and their cousin's battered out 30 year old Toyota.

The War in Afghanistan will be defined for future generations by its merits and its merits alone. It’s important to remember that, despite the great and saddening loss of life, vehicles, and real estate, the Afghanistan Invasion truly accomplished its mission of Bringing Britain Together for Britain in the World. For that, I am certain that all of our fallen soldiers are in heaven as we ideate, getting deep tissue massages from Ruth Bader Ginsburg 😌

I made an 'Aargh' noise when you guys talked about sky news bit with veteran's kids. I know that our media well has no bottom, but sometimes it still surprises me.

Britain continuing the War in Afghanistan without America would be like that time they tried to do that Friends spin-off with ONLY Joey
