Someone needs to update Riley’s knowledge and pronunciation of Toronto! The second T is silent dammit! Queen and Beaver is not in the mall, nor is Ryerson University save two lecture halls in an attached but separate building. Bars are however required to sell food still for some reason, but we can in fact stand up and even buy booze to go now (and semi-legally drink in parks).
The snack waiter just gave me the headcannon of a cursed gamer restaurant, with fine dining on experimental flavours of doritos. 😬
In Belfast, I worked in a nightclub called The Venue that was technically a restaurant to get around expensive licensing. So it had tables and chairs, and when you paid your £5 in, you were given a token that entitled you to free chips and curry/gravy.
Rileys story about the weird Canadian liquor laws reminds me a lot of PA liquor laws which are equally bizarre. My dad helped this bar get its liquor license and they had the same law where you need to be able to serve food to people if they asked for it. And they got around that by having a few huge cans of chef boyardee there and some sandwiches that they bought from a deli up the street that you could technically order if you wanted
