Magna Carta Baz: TF Reviews 'Robin Hood (2010)' feat. Eleanor Janega and Patrick Wyman

This week, we've rounded up our favorite historians and subjected them to yet another absolutely terrible movie--this time it's Ridley Scott's 'Robin Hood,' a nearly 150-minute long film that sucks. Who could not say they loved a long digression into the Magna Carta's origins or a sequence we can only call Medieval Saving Private Ryan? You will enjoy this.

You have to do Kingdom of Heaven by Ridley Scott also, and about the crusades. A film in which Ridley tries to make some points about religion in the middle east. Orlando Bloom has a challenging time trying to act opposite good actors like Jeremy Irons, Eva Green, Ed Norton, David Thespis and Ghassan Masoud. He has a better time turning up to the Middle East as a blacksmith who uses his innately superior logic to teach Arabs how to do irrigation. And siege defenses. And suggests that maybe God isn’t a thing - take that Abrahamic faiths! Lots of random liberalism inserted throughout. Oh and you must watch the longer director’s cut. Some might say because it’s better than the cinematic cut, but I just want to see you suffer more.

Yeah it's a minority opinion vs Knight's Tale but I would *love* to hear them tear through this movie

Oh God, I remember now: Ironclad reproduced a gritty LoTR siege scene. Its *based* on history, where the attacker dug a tunnel under the castle wall, lit a fire, and used fat pigs to fuel the fire. Ironclad however thinks that lighting up fat pigs turns them into an IED. And the whole wall exploded like in LoTR.

Good/bad medieval film? Ironclad maybe? From what I remember, it tries to be gritty real medieval warfare. Yet has obvious dumb stuff in it, like a ridiculous sword. I believe the movie was like a dumb guy reading the wikipedia article for HEMA, and then thinking he's got that medieval thing all figured out.

You gotta do the King Arthur from like 2004...directed by Antoine Fuqua I think?

re: a good thing to watch, I would pay a considerable sum for an episode-by-episode recap of HBO's Rome with Patrick Wyman.

I'm not sure if it's bad enough to make for good content, but the recent Taron Edgerton/Jamie Foxx Robin Hood film made me laugh very hard, especially the using tactical breach-and-clear shit with bows and arrows.

Es ist nicht einfach ein Gott zu sein. lt's not good, but it might actually get how a real 20th century dude† would respond to a real medieval world, and they _do_ run a spear through Werner Herzog. †for some abstraction of real 20th century dude. He does get magic powers to keep him alive.

While listening to this I realized I not only saw this film but completely forgot everything about it. I only remembered when you started talking about Mark Strong.

My suggestion for good bad medieval film; A Knight's Tale (2001).

Here's another great movie to watch : 13th Warrior. That way, we can get some Viking content on here, and answer the question "What if a Spanish guy was Arabian?". Also, it's just a fun silly action romp whose plot is just a tower defence game, and it rules imo. Alternatively, "Path Finder". Same vibe, but more cringe. I just want some more Viking stuff, generally. Complete the For Honor trifecta.
