Chernenko's America feat. Alex Scaggs
Financial journalist Alex Scaggs returns to talk about why the American treat based economy has strained around the edges. In short - as a result of decades of a sclerotic and implacable elite unable to get beyond their ideological commitments to shareholders, the US and UK are experiencing sky high prices, shortages of crucial goods, catastrophic misallocation of resources. But first, we talk about a "Synthetic Biology" company that's got some fun ideas about The New Flesh.

Riley predicts the return of BellBottoms
This episode was really good and there is probably a whole series in Milo going through what they teach you during an MBA.
they/them pussy got me acting sclerotic and implacable
The Toyota Production System is my favorite part of corporate culture. It's so good if you implement it wholeheartedly, but no one does at all. Everyone just pretends to do it until the moment it becomes inconvenient, but a lot of what makes it works is because it's inconvenient to do. The quality system it prescribes says that any one person should be able to stop production for quality issues, and that issues should get fixed properly instead of bandaged. American manufacturing implements this exactly as well as you'd expect
americans simply love to learn about really neat methodologies but only apply the cost cutting parts of it
oooh, the hot tub
Chickens haven’t been breeding bc most of them have been self isolating so the dating scene completely dried up

Tractors are expensive as fuck right now. Comrades. Please produce more.
"Calling things by the wrong name on purpose" is one of two jokes that there is and the other one is voices, particularly The Free One
if they're using vector transfection (using bacterial cells as factories) there's little chance for mutation during the course of their production. it's only if the cells themselves are being used in the product and somehow expected to continue producing? (which would absolutely never happen) their science is sound to me (im a plant virologist)
I agree, I work in medical research and we use bacteria to produce proteins and DNA all the time. As long as you sequence the DNA to check it's inserted correctly you're fine. To be honest it's such a commonly used technique that I don't see how they can say they're going to be the only ones that can make it, they're going to be disappointed when every other lab is able to do it as well. Also, there are several companies that will do this for you already, you tell them what sequence you want and which organism, eg e.coli and they make it for you.
No one actually uses terminator seeds tho
One thing I was particularly surprised by in the Jurassic Park novel is how near the end Doctor Grant seemingly passes through the Event Horizon and just starts to go full psycho verbally on the lawyer, like "If you don't come with me to nerve gas these velociraptor nests, I am going to murder you in your sleep and set your family on fire because you're basically responsible for this whole island kerfuffle".
