Britainology 2: The Noble Football Hooligan
This week, Nate and Milo are discussing the 2005 film Green Street Hooligans, in which an American played by Elijah Wood goes to Britain and gets inducted into a football firm, learning a lot about himself along the way. Is it a good movie? No. But does it accurately portray football hooliganism? Also no.

another quality ep as per - wld be super interested in hearing Nate expand a bit more on the whole 'US has a class system / UK has a caste system' thing at some point
Is down with the sickness playing in the fight scene?!
It just occurred to me what would make a great episode: the hilariously cringe thriller, Donkey Punch. Make it happen, guys! Ha ha
I'm already addicted to Britainology. I remember being very annoyed with a friend because he came back from Blockbusters with Green Street, and then wondering if I'd absent mindedly taken a hit on the bong at the end - like after 2001 (which I was stoned for). Bill Buford, a nice American who edited Granta, took up football hooliganism and wrote a book about it, which I expect you already know. I remember it being a very enjoyable read. Thank you馃挏馃挏xx (and one for Riley馃挏x)
Love Riley just popping in randomly xD
This was a big college movie for my friends and I along with Snatch and Lock Stock & 2 Smoking Barrels, excited to hear the episode.
My brother was obsessed with this movie 12 years ago, back when he wanted to be a footballer
I watched this movie after I got my ass kicked by football hooligans, in an attempt to understand their way of life.
you probably wouldn't get enough content out of it due to it not being deranged, but as a counterpoint to this i'd love to get your thoughts on 'The Firm' starring Gary Oldman. very different, disturbing take on football firms
Maybe the writers were vaguely aware of Liverpool fans hating The Sun and extrapolated it to football fans hating all journalists
Yeah, the Zulu part wasn't racist, that's the name of Birmingham's hooligan crew.
Love this, you guys will never run out of content in that cursed crumbling country
In fairness to the bit about them calling Birmingham fans Zulu's, the Birmingham firm is called the Zulu Warriors
unexpected 30 secs of Riley on the Square Mile
aww yiss, more of this dumbfuck country
Not listened yet, but I already know it's gonna be good! 馃榿
