Kimmy got Papered

We got outpaced again on the life and times of Kim Guilfoyle! But mainly we're here to discuss the Reform Candidates who repeated 1950's slurs into a boom mic (legitimate concerns!) LOUDLY AND SLOWLY, and the life, death, and bankruptcy of our old friend Character AI. Who knew the "Elsa From Frozen Tells You To Kill Your Parents" company that also has horrible unit economics wasn't going to be a viable business.

Ambassador of Greece is the best job ever. It is a very long paid luxury vacation. How does someone fuck that up?

I miss Milo, "Yosemite Sam - Indirect Fire School shooter Team" is not a bit he would have just left on the table

The thing that struck me about Hussein’s “thesis statement at the end of the episode” is that chatting with an AI bot is encouraging every single rule of empathy that we teach to our kids about interacting with others. Every one! You can let loose every bad impulse, except physical abuse, and the chatbot just wants more engagement. It’s de-humanizing people.

I think the "orange in a sock" thing is old timey misogyny about breasts and I assume it was an older woman he was speaking about. It's one i haven't heard for a while but then i don't hang out with Reform members.

"Alan Feeney's Racist Election Strategy" wasn't one of the better Beatles albums but it did have one or two hits.

I liked the one that went "It's OK to leave your dog in a hot car"

I mean it is called "shooting up" and not "shooting down" so it scans, i think

On the JK stuff I also think that the BBC will be in for a surprise as terfs largely reject it if it isn't presenting her as a Goddess who through her ungodly courage tweeted allot about trans women, like they are so radicalised that even the mere suggestion she might actually be fucking with her legacy to be genuinely an immoral stance to take.

Very incisive discussion, despite the appearance of Yosemite Sam

Re the piece about Replica at the end. It reminds me of an old SF story (can't remember by who but it's from the 70s or 80s) where an elderly man is being pressed by his family to take his own life. They say to him, don't worry about us missing you we have a copy of your personality on a computer.

The Replika thing is kind of a mindfuck because IIRC it started as a project called “Roman”. It was named for a late friend of the founder and she set it up to help her process the grief of losing her friend. I actually met her years ago totally randomly.

The Cormoran whatever the name is books weren't popular when they first came out. They didn't sell well before she made her pen name public. It was only after that they sold more but still nothing numbers compared to other crime/thriller books which is one of the most popular genres. Sincerely, a former bookseller who had to periodically dust them off because they just wouldn't sell.

the thing i always think about transphobic/conservative scottish nationalists: shocking that the movement associated with kitschy romanticisation of the horrible lives of highland crofters turned out to have some reactionary elements

At 19:40 , about the last time this “it is illegal to change the law” happening in the Austro-Hungarian empire, in Germany it is still very present, mainly directed against the right at the moment, with the idea of the “wehrhafte Demokratie”, with the constant reference beeing the semi democratic abolishment of democracy when the nazis took power. To a lesser degree the left is part of that discourse, with questions of expropriation and positions towards Israel beeing debated, in the expropriation case in connection to the constitution. (The constitution also has parts which are very much illegal to change)

the greatest trick capitalism ever pulled was convincing people that expropriating physical capital is the same as shooting dissidents
