Un Three-in Andalou feat. Mattie Lubchansky and Hesse Deni
We needed to up the chaos a bit so we watched the terrible 2021 film LOCKED DOWN with our good friends Mattie Lubchansky (of the No Gods No Mayors podcast) and Hesse Deni (of the Seeking Derangements and Trouble in River City podcasts)! The film is not good but who doesn’t love hearing friends torment one another by making them watch a film so bad it feels like outsider art.

Wait, this isn't about the Robert Harold 2021 "Locked Down"?
I love Hesse but the “period” thing is weirdly grating to me. 😳
“Corgi” “clinkle” “buma” what the fuck are these company names? They all sound like fake streaming services from that one tweet.
Q
I thought I’d missed a running bit with the Periodtt.
Holy shit, Delaware mentioned! And not in connection with a Biden or corporate tax evasion.
Having watched a lot of schlock thanks to really getting into MST3K back in the day it's actually surprising to see how good Ed Wood actually is. The man had talent and heart compared to so much of the terrible movies out there.

I paused this at 27 minutes to watch Pain and Gain.
there's a good movie about the Covid lockdown it's called The Shining [Kubrick; 1980]
the only valid art responding to the pandemic is bored in the house by tyga
White Noise is the other good about Covid but we don’t call it Covid movie
Also TV does Covid representations better - Shameless had a while thing about having to work through the pandemic and the two barfly dudes realize they’ve been in love this entire time cause they’re terrified of dying? In The Other Two the lead guy owes his career boost to that fact that his movie was one of the few that didn’t get delayed from Covid cause they cynically worked through it.
Riley ate up all his “well yes, quite” responses to “periodtt” three minutes into the episode and then just ground his teeth for an hour
What a delight of an episode
I never want to hear the word Period ever again
I've been reading a book called Murderland, a nonfiction book about the effect of lead exposure on American society. One section that touches on WW2 talked about how British troops, even in the heat of the African desert, made a great deal of tea because their water tasted bad. It tastes bad because they shipped water to troops in the same gas cans they used for leaded gasoline. These same gas cans were often used as tea pots. All of that made me think of this podcast and how it kind of explains a certain period of British history

Emergency crowdfund to buy Hesse a new vocal stim. Period!
Em-Dash might be an appropriate one
The way you described this film made it sound really good but then Mattie compared it unfavourably to The Pitt and i really hate The Pitt which is so centrist libbed out that it deserves its own episode, so now I'm just very confused. Where do i find the movie about the telescope owning drug enjoyers?
@Mattie the 4 $ spent for renting out the movie might be tax deductible though
The question none of these AI-"creators" have an answer to: Why don't we prompt AI to make movies and other AI's to watch them and just end ourselves collectively?
I've got one agent tasked with killing itself and another with despairing over it and a third writing op ends about how its good and the future actually and a fourth agent to read those until it's suicidal
Dave Fennoy? He's primarily a voice actor. He was Lee in The Walking Dead Telltale game, and other things in many other things.
Hesse's "periodtt" count stands at a very respectable 43 times
period
The only good COVID film I've seen is Radu Jude's Bad Luck Banging or Loony Porn, all about a schoolteacher whose ex-husband films them having sex, and the recording ends up online. The first part is her trying to deal with it going viral and get it off the internet at the worst point of the lockdown, and the third is a socially distanced 'trial' at the school. It's really funny and very well observed on how the pandemic complicated life as it existed before, really recommend it
Glad we had Nova holding down the silent mic this episode. Absolutely the backbone of this podcast. 😤👊🏻
Number of times someone said "period." this episode: 25.
The French do like Edgar Allan Poe. Baudelaire translated him and framed him as a really significant figure in modern art and poetry. His French audience is a bit more serious than his English and American audience.
This could've been a Britainology.
Surely Britainology is far enough in the past to be able to do a Britainology about Britainology.
Episode idea: Riley walks around a TK Max looking at things. / end
i really liked Locked Down. curious to see what the pod makes of it
Don't worry, they really enjoyed it!
"No Mr. Bean situations happened to me" - guy who watched the wrong movie.

Is Milo returning?
I keep hoping that he’ll somehow stumble into being made honorary Mayor for the day of somewhere unhinged like Magnitogorsk or Geelong so they can have him on NGNM.
This 'film' feels like a major pinned point on the timeline of HBO decaying
Justice for Mattie, it really be your own cohost mean girls!!!
November on the TF feed doing KJB with one of her NGNM cohosts is either trolling or… …no, it’s just trolling. That’s actually the only option. (I have not yet listened to the podcast. If they make this joke, which I’m sure they do, I may not have been first but damnit I’m still honest.)
To be fair The Holdovers (2023) starring Paul Giamatti was the other good COVID movie
Hesse not shouting out Movie JACQUES Set in her podcast CV. Shaking my head. You need to trick Riley into having them on now.
Period

Dream team! Love these women!!!
