Joke candidacies are fun and everything but I suspect they're a bit of a bait and switch. Like, people think they are making fun of politicians or the system that elects them but they're really ridiculing credulous people who vote for them and delegitimizing the possibility of a sincere politics to improve anything. They are also something of a harmless release valve for discontent before it actually affects anything material. A safe way to express contempt for your betters that in actuality expresses contempt for representative democracy as a concept That said part of me kind of likes them because as it stands the system that tries to cover itself with legitimacy by diffusing responsibility and implied consent onto the populace for this putrid style of governance and it's disastrous policies isn't democratic in any sense and deserves the contempt
