White Skin, White Masks feat. Nish Kumar

We’ve brought on our friend and long-suffering literary correspondent Nish Kumar to discuss Matthew Goodwin’s new book that he wrote using AI while cribbing a stupid meme from the Joe Rogan Experience: “suicidal empathy.” The hits are all there, but Goodwin can’t bring himself to go full Camp of the Saints, and instead just pads his word count with the help of computer and winds up writing white grievance Fanon instead.

Our friends at Trade Unions Fighting the Far Right are organising a demo against Tommy Robinson on 16th May in London! You can check out their details on their site here, and also on instagram @tuff.network

We shall fight in France, Gaule, Francia, Marianne, La Patrie des Lumières. We shall fight on the seas and the oceans and the deeps and the briny and the waves and Neptune’s realm. We shall fight with growing confidence, self-esteem, assurance, aplomb, boldness, and presence; and growing strength, might, brawn, vigor, potency, and stamina in the air We shall defend our island, whatever the cost, toll, penalty, sacrifice, or loss may be. We shall fight on the beaches, the shores, the shingles, the coastlines, the seasides, the sands, the surfs, the waterfronts, the docks, the piers, the littoral boundaries and the oceanfronts. We shall fight on the landing grounds, the airfields, the air strips, the aerodromes, the runways, the taxiways, the ramps, the airbases and the open tracts of land. We shall fight in the fields and in the streets, in the paddocks and in the roads, in the meadows and in the alleys, in the pastures and in the avenues, in the tracts and in the boulevards, in the thoroughfares and in the acreages. We shall fight in the hills, mounds, knolls, hummocks, hillocks, ridges, bluffs, peaks, heights, downs, braes, buttes and fells. We shall never surrender, capitulate, yield, concede, submit or succumb.

I've heard Riley say "I'm not a wooferendum guy" enough now that I'm gonna have to go combing through photos of that protest just to make sure. I'm convinced there's a 'Bollocks to Brexit' shirt hidden shamefully away in a cupboard somewhere.

Not sure you should have bothered to read this one Riley, since Matt Goodwin didn't bother to write it.

Why does the title "___ of a nation" sound so familiar? Is there some step of life before suicide that a nation could undergo? I just can't place it!

I didn't know that Goodwin had included the lyrics to It's Grim Up North by the KLF in his book. I almost have to respect that.

Love you guys, long time listener, but also can you fuck off with the emdashes? Those are a relatively common grammatical affect (which is why they appear in LLM training data in the first place) and they were such before ai. I used to laugh that shit off, but I get harassed now when I post on Reddit or anywhere else. I’m Audhd and big proponent of speaking in one’s authentic voice; for me that involved emdashes. They’re a parenthetical notation, and as such they were very useful way of syntactically conveying the disjunctiveness of my experience. I already got a lot of shit literally every time I posted or spoke anywhere because I use words like ‘disjunctiveness of my experience’, and now people call me an AI. Which, like, I guess you could say that’s just ‘calling the autistic kid a robot’ so it’s more of the same, but like, some of you are autistic too. It’s not like it’s gotten easier to be online, and offline was never exactly welcoming to begin with. Y’all do it every episode you talk about AI and y’all have enough of an audience/influence that other anti-ai folks do it too, and like, it’s bad enough being autistic and trans in 2026, but can I at least use my fucking emdashes and write authentically without being called a robot because nobody knows what a parenthetical is? Or, failing that, can I at least not be reminded that I will get called a robot (again/as usual) if I post online when I’m listening to one of my favourite podcasts? Like, pick any other bullshit ai tell? Maybe the ones y’all use whenever you talk, like ‘it’s a testament to’ or something?

In this case the new ruling class is that the left are winning with everyone under the age of 55. Once the boomers finally die off Britain *IS* going to be unrecognisable to racists, because its going to become a left-wing country.

J

As a total Luddite that turns as much of the AI crap off (that can’t be consciously applied to search, sort or summarize deliberately, on occasion?) that has yet to join the ubiquitous current illiterati, those sentences aren’t unfamiliar, but I now can’t ’unhear’ ‘M-‘ after reading some really dreadful galaxy-brain levels of ‘un-thought’ writing / Burroughs-esque mind-virii? I do like the mad mad mad world ref / that’s a delightful image. We have more $ and waste in America (local city of ~50k people has a city hall (developer weasel playground?), public works office , police station all next to each other that aren’t that old (late 80s) / not totally falling down and they’re asking voters for a 30 year bond / debt financed property tax increase for $150million over 30 years (most boomers are already retired and will be dead before the bond is paid off as population shrinks !) fora shiny new secure building that is all 3 in 1. Ribbon cuttings, shoddy buildings, sick building syndrome & ‘growing cops like tumors’ all resonate. They just keep raising the bar… …$1000/yr in avg home tax assessment increase to better fund the developer weasels and cops to dig your own grave / make quality of life worse to replace a building that isn’t that old / shouldn’t have a leaky roof or shoddy walls if built or managed properly in the 1st place?

There's a moment when everything changes...which takes a long time and happens slowly, like most moments, a segment of time generally considered quite long and not of some sort of brief (aka momentary) duration. "That gum you like is coming back into style." - you dropped your fake dog doo-doo.
