Ten Years to Save My Summer Vacation: TF Live feat. Nish Kumar

We recorded a live show at Between the Bridges in London on May 29 with friend of the show Nish Kumar, who has been doomed to listen to us read terrible political books to him until the end of time. And in this instance we’re reading TEN YEARS TO SAVE THE WEST by former Prime Minister and bathrobe despoiler Liz Truss. You are not prepared for how deeply stupid this book is.

NEW MERCH AVAILABLE! We’ve re-issued our ‘What If Your Robot Was Just a Guy?’ shirt with artwork by Rory Blank, and we have an all-new Britianology shirt entitled ‘The Falkland Islands: It’s All We’ve Got Left’ with artwork by Eleanor Osada. They’re both available to pre-order here! https://www.trashfuture.co.uk/store

EDINBURGH LIVE SHOW ALERT We're going to be live at Monkey Barrel comedy at the Edinburgh Fringe on August 14, and you can get tickets here:

Well, you monsters must be happy with your work. Boycott is possibly dying in a hospital now.

I hate to defend Truss but I am roughly contemporaneous with her. Physical punishment -including the belt - wasn't banned in UK schools until 1986, although there were piecemeal regional bans beginning from the earlyish 80s. One of my earliest school memories is of being smacked at the front of the class and while it is entirely likely that Truss is exaggerating it's not impossible there's an element of truth. I can neither confirm nor deny that that kind of experience can change a person.

Can confirm as a Purdue grad who lived in West Lafayette IN for four years (and grew up 1 hour away from there); they are absolutely NOT teaching cultural Marxism there. Not a fucking chance in hell.

Maybe it’s the Covid sizzling my brain, but all I could think about this whole episode was Milo as Liz Truss performing an unhinged facist rendition of 50 Ways to Leave Your Lover.

It's so cool that incredibly stupid politicians are just publishing fascist manifestos written by chatgpt under their own names now. I love living in the future.

Great episode for the cricket heads. Cheers. P.S. Check out Geoffrey Boycott's domestic team playing history for a fun surprise. (Not many Yorkies can say they played for a more problematic institution than YCCC, but Jeff has.)

Insinuating that the badgers are saboteurs is some high stalinism era insanity.

Critical support for Nova's "kampfy" pun that everyone should have laughed at.

As a listener who had a lovely glass of ketamine-laced vimto (Saudi vimto, no less. check it out) while I listened to the first 40 minutes of this episode I think I made the correct decision in intoxicants today.

Nate if you want a real Foucault story one of my professors went to UC Berkeley in the 1970s and studied French Philology, one weekend he was in town giving a talk and she was working late. She saw Foucault walk into the French department in all leather to pick up a professor so they could go clubbing in San Francisco. I think about that a lot.

My pals, sincerity mode: I spent today on a live stream for a friend's funeral, and then at her wake. The notification for this came in as I was in the taxi home. Long live TF/Nish/Truss madness. ❤️
