Assigned Mayor At Birth (ft. Mattie Lubchansky)

Resident Eric Adams expert Mattie Lubchansky joins the gang to discuss Adams and his loyal retainers, his plans to use an AI system that doesn't work to fight a non existent subway cirme problem, and how he tried to win an argument he had on the radio by getting baptised in prison by Al Sharpton. Then, we talk about the other countries that own England's water supply going on strike until the fat cat public coughs up double their bills, and then an article where a certain Viscount remembers how Liz Truss is a lot like another politician some of us remember.

November, I know you’re mad about other countries’ pension funds owning British things but I think you should know that a British retirement fund bought the train that runs to the airport in Brisbane (and it’s one of the only profitable public transport lines paid for by private capital in history), and although the Queensland government will finally own the train in 2036 the British pension fund is making millions off of our overpriced train.

Criminal to breeze past "For sale, inguinal canal, never used"; this is such a good joke.

I got Mattie's book over the weekend and read it cover to cover in one afternoon, it's an incredibly good read full of laughs and tears. Go see for yourself! I saw it in an independent comic shop and just had to get it!

best part about the "new york's ___est" thing is that very few of them have it and its pretty much only the guys who have to wear a uniform, but that does mean that the NYSD, the sanitation department, have a motto: "New York's Strongest" cuz new york remembers when the bin man was hard also yes they do wear uniforms, and they even have rank badges, the director gets 4 stars like a general, which frankly im in favour of

Hundreds of years ago the state of Britain colonized the world, and now the world is doing reverse colonialism and buying Britain a dollar at a time. They have created the East India Pee Company

Big Sam's England tenure would be a much more apt comparison for Truss. Clough famously went on to win the European Cup with Forest twice- is the VIscount saying the best is yet to come for Truss? Perhaps head of the IMF?

Every time l think it's time to retire my "Eric Adams is just a clone of a clone of Cory Booker" line, he goes and pulls another one right out of Booker playbook. (In this case turning to Sharpton for some legitimacy). ███████ Jersey politicians man....

Runciman really hasn’t been right since his divorce. He has literally married a similarly posh therapist since then but he’s still got heavy divorced guy energy.

No offense to the humble magistrate, perhaps England's most American institution (amateur judges), but I could see one sentencing someone who abused other people's dogs to 18 months of not owning a dog.

Thought I recognised the name - Lord Runciman is the descendent of the original Lord Runciman, who was one of the architects of the British policy of appeasement to Nazi Germany. Further proof that it is impossible to truly fail in British politics.

I thought the Manchester Arena used Evolv scanners? I remember the "claimed certified by UK Gov" headline from a few weeks ago, no gov body use them but I thought that Manchester Arena went all in on Evolv, essentially as a direct response to the bombing there.

Does the UK not have sewage collection systems? Here in Portland, OR our "Big Pipe" will sometimes overflow into the Willamette River during heavy rains, but most of the time the poo is sent to a city owned treatment plant.

D
David Graeber · April 4, 2024

Of course we do. Private companies ripped the copper wire out of them and didn't upgrade or expand the systems, so they leak and overflow because they're now grossly over capacity.

My cousin is a teacher in Ontario and getting to regularly hit her with the shit her pension fund is or has been involved with is a never ending source of entertainment (FTX, London water & sewage as mentioned, the Sydney Desalination Plant, etc.)
