Left on Read: Child of All Nations by Irmgard Keun
Riley and November read Irmgard Keun's 1938 novel about living on the most genteel run possible in Europe. It's a book written from the perspective of a child refugee, and Riley and November think about how the world has remained the same and changed since then.

Left on read is some of my favorite stuff you guys put out
Great episode
Okay the bolter and chain sword thing actually makes me want you guys to do an episode on something really silly like the ciaphas Cain books.
I'd love a left on read on Horus Rising. Like yes it's super silly junkfood, but there's also a lot worth discussing just under the surface
The real chainsword was the friends we made along the way
I’m a big Keun fan so imagine my total surprise that she got an episode! I just read Fallada’s Little Man, What Now? and was thinking about it a lot as well during your discussion. It’s another book that obsesses over money and raising a young family during inflation with Nazis somewhere in the background. His Every Man Dies Alone is another favorite, a totally bleak but really moving depiction of the types and sorts of resistance. If you do a Fallada episode, I’ll look forward to it for sure.
getting a good grade at Library, something that is both normal to want and possible to achieve,
I really loved this ep, you two. Extremely timely (alas) and I’ll be looking for this novella. I don’t need to be undone by $10 tier boats! Thanks
November is my favorite podcaster at the moment and I think the reason for this is that she a) always knows what she's talking about and b) never pretends that she knows more about what she's talking about than she does. I also feel that I recognize the cauldron of compulsion and anxiety this state emerges from, and so I want to salute her as a fellow sufferer
not relevant to *this* ep but November and Milo giggling at each others’ silliness like naughty kids is my love language
