Wataponno 8th birthday!

Hello everyone, Ponno here with our annual birthday newsletter.

Today October 1st is Wataponno’s 8th birthday. That’s right, Wataponno is 8 years old!! Every year this number feels more and more like a fever dream, and it’s all thanks to you <3

This year was an interesting year for Wataponno, with the release of Magical Hellhound Lust. MHL, even if it continues the story of Magical Monstergirls Academy, departs both in visual and gameplay style, and we learned a lot from this game. MHL was full of experiments, research and development, and tryouts. With this “small game” released in early access, work on MMA2 has begun!

But before we get to this, let’s review last year’s newsletter.

So from last year, we accomplished ALL our objectives, except one. Saki's Mantle 2 (the second book about Saki). Saki's Mantle 1 has been re-released with pictures, but Saki's Mantle 2 (aka Saki's Quest), has been delayed. Writing got delayed by a while, and so was illustrating. But good news, It is currently being illustrated and it is completely done for the writing. It will be released with the full release of Magical Hellhound Lust.

And now, what’s next?

Magical Monstergirls Academy 2 is Wataponno’s next BIG game. In fact, it is the ULTIMATE WATAPONNO GAME. MMA2 has 2 goals: build the perfect monstergirls game with the knowledge and talent we accumulated so far and gather every wataponno game into a single game. That’s right: all games into a single big, perfect, ultimate game. This project will at least get us to our 10th anniversary, for which we already are planning a very special collectible. More news on that next year ;)

The goals for MMA2 are as follow:

• Have a single game version for everyone. This will make debugging much easier (people often report bugs that have been fixed a couple versions ago) and help deliver the new content automatically to everyone. No more downloading 3 versions per release because of bug fixes!

• Allow a better distribution of patreon rewards and bigger, better rewards. This will demand SOME online capacity for the game, as you will log in game with your patreon account. That being said, the game will still be playable offline in its base form.

• Have a single game for everyone. No more buying 4 different games to get the whole story and Wataponno experience. All previous games, and more, will be added to Magical Monstergirls Academy 2 as DLCs. Got a Wataponno game to play? MMA2 is the answer! It has everything! This will require some remaster of older games, especially Magical Waifus Academy and Draconic Date. Don’t worry, the old games will still be available as they currently are, for the nostalgics.

• Community goals and an ongoing, evolving world. While we already were doing this in some capacity before with the patreon polls, MMA2 with its limited (by design) online capacity will allow us to include community goals and objectives, an evolving world map, and changing challenges into the game. Want to play the storyline and be done with it like a normal RPG? You can. Want to continue playing the game after and have an impact on how things evolve? That’s what we are going for!

How we will do this:

• Wataponno launcher. A launcher that will auto-update the game, and an official web version of the game that also auto-updates.

• Patreon login directly in game.

• Remastering the old games and including them as DLCs in MMA2.

• Community objectives based on raw numbers and quests (kill 10 000 hellhounds) and an evolving world map (conquer the Fire Top region!)

• Multiple ways to participate in the war effort. Be it defeating monstergirls, training your own hit squad, hunting down powerful and shiny monstergirls or building your base, there will be multiple ways to play Magical Monstergirls Academy 2, affect the story, and unlock rewards and scenes.

All in all, the tldr is as follow: Magical Monstergirls Academy 2 is THE Wataponno game. 10 years of experience, 40h+ of pure story, and a million dollars budget. Magical Monstergirls Academy 2 will be our everlasting legacy, going on as long as you guys are with us. Together, let’s go forward to Wataponno’s 10th birthday, and beyond!
