What Are They Burning in Boyle Heights? (Premium 346)
On June 17th the LA skyline was disturbed by a cloud of thick smoke emanating from a cold storage warehouse fire in Boyle Heights. This resulted in a Fallout 76 style rat infestation, biblical swarms of flies, and the putrid stench of rotting meat filling every home in the surrounding area. After a brief overview of the fire, Liv begins this episode with a few references to the hit show Chernobyl and then follows up with a few more references to the hit show Chernobyl before taking a look at the city’s lackluster response to the fire and the cleanup operation that ensued. Later, Jake discusses a few of the conspiracies that have emerged in the wake of the fires. So, dear listener, grab your Stimpacks and Radaway and prepare for another QAA classic.

Had some, "fun" local conspiracies when a document storage warehouse went up in flames in my town. Luckily, no deaths, the fire was controlled within the day, but burning paper rained down in the warehouse district for the whole day.
All roads lead back to Chernobyl
Lets get it started
The wifi thing is real
The WiFi radar is literally quite real, Xfinity rolled out that feature in their firmware. Security researchers are actually quite frightened by this one.
trAvIs View.
I think it was during trump 1 when there were conspiracies about China or the deep state destroying US manufacturing or utilities facilities.
I live in Whittier, close enough to enjoy the bad air quality but far enough away that I didn’t experience the poisoned atmosphere and Biblical plague of flies and rotting food. This is such a nightmare.
The WiFi motion sensing technology is real, and is intended to be used as a camera-free home security feature. What happens is that the wireless modem measures wifi strength changes caused by peoples' bodies blocking the signal. Not really dystopian as far as I'm concerned since if they wanted to spy on if you're home, the internet company would just measure when your phone is connected to the wifi. As for what the guy was reading out, it's fully AI written since it's got that nauseatingly unrelenting "not x, not y, just z" and "that's not x, that's y" impact writing garbage.
Im surprised yall didn’t bring up the conspiracy that I heard from locals was that the warehouse was actually a secret data center, hence why the fire took so long to take care of.
miscellaneous uncs shooting poison on QAA?
Another layer to this disaster is Boyle Heights and East LA (unincorporated) have different resources, LA City vs LA county, bureaucracy in Los Angeles is incredibly decentralized to the point that nothing gets done. Karen Bass is uninformed and negligent, especially considering all the public/private resources that go to Cal EPA/ LA San (water health)/ AQMD (air monitoring) or close by research hubs that specialize in environmental toxicology (ie UCLA, CalTech) that could be utilized to make WELL INFORMED calls about resident safety. Sincerely, a Lincoln Heights resident
The wifi thing is real, some defense contractor types were bragging about it a while ago, about how they could use it to locate suspects and that sort of thing.
Licking cream cheese off my phone screen 🫶
you can track motion with wi-fi, that’s absolutely real.

the wifi/radar thing is real btw. its deadass just a setting in the xfinity app that you can toggle on and off
Worrying news there . Interesting yet concerning . Sounds similar in places to Chernobyl .Anyone else there noticed that ?! 😏
Anyway, great episode again, folks ! Keep up the good work.👍 Looking forward to the announcement of new Cursed Media content. 🙌
The wifi thing is 100% real dumbass Its what starlink is really for - synthetic aperture radar
As a "No Gods, No Mayors" Podcast listener hearing of a fire at an industrial meat facility in LA I immediately check Google Earth to see how close this facility is to the "city" of Vernon, CA (Official town motto: Exclusively industrial). And of course it's right in the border... Because reality is just like that now.
The Mayortaculus smiles upon you
Love this Classico episode
Also a good thing to watch when depressed, the film 'Possum' by the same dude who made Garth Merengi's Dark Place - it is just pure atmosphere and isolated dilapidated northern English horror with Sean Harris. Oh and also season one of True Detective lol Add perhaps Under The Skin with Scarlett Johansson, All My Friends Hate Me, and Sorry To Bother You, maybe Calibre the Scottish film as well
I love Balatro so much. My son introduced it to me in March and it seemed to actually help my depression. It became the only mobile game I play basically overnight. God, I love it so much.
Stoked (and scared) for this ep. I live on one side (Koreatown) and my best friend lives on the other side, Alhambra.
From now on, I’m going to call firemen “Bio-robots”.
Unfortunately the liberals have created their own version of Maoist Standard English and the world will never recover
That WiFi shit is real. I was aware of it while being developed! I honestly haven’t heard about it since 4 years ago when I was told about it and it triggered memories
Corporations will NEVER do the right thing in these situations. They always have to be FORCED to do the right thing. It's capitalism run amok.😐
You can get 96 flytraps for $40
Yeah, the newscaster cited them buying 350 traps like it was significant, when in reality it's only significant for how pitiful a number that is considering that the flies could kill people.
listening to this while playing balatro 👀
I'm listening to this in a big bed with my wife.
can’t wait to find out how I, one of those pesky Jews, am responsible for the burning of a neighborhood where and near where mfs I care deeply about are from
The poem A+
I’m living for the Chernobyl references. I wish Jared Harris would host a town hall admonishing Karen Bass. “This is the cost of lies, KAREN!”
an RMBK warehouse shouldn’t be able to explode, yet it did, why? GRAPHITE
When you say "I dont know. I'll look into this," edit something in. At least try not being lazy on the paid episodes? Unless the ambiguity is the point. Travis used to be reliable
I found Julian’s burner account
Was the warehouse owned by COLD? (an investment company that only owns cold storage warehouses)
I’m so glad y’all are talking about this.
Ugh I was at my buddy’s place in Boyle heights on Friday night. That smell is baaaaad. Nervous to listen to this one
This is so awful
Hell yeah boys
