Way behind on this, but apparently "listening to podcasts about 90's Japanese cartoons I have not watched, and then laughing hard enough to dig up streams to watch the cartoons I listened to hours of podcasts about" is my midlife crisis / reaction to everything else in the world being on fire. Amazing. Necessary. Lasagna.
I'm a little annoyed at the self-censoring. If you have to cut something out, I say that you cut it out totally instead of having us miss out on a thing that you evidently find very funny from surrounding context!
Next robot series, Zoids: Chaotic Century!
It's a square-rectangle thing; all Gundams are mobile suits, not all mobile suits are Gundams. And if you're not Gundam'ed out after this, check out The Witch from Mercury next (small-town space girl goes to big city space Gundam college, gets accidentally engaged to the CEO of space's daughter day 1, shenanigans and war ensue)
How have I never heard of this
Gonna recommend Robot Jox again. It's the live action American G Gundam that predates G Gundam. There is a Starship Troopers anime where everyone wears giant mech suits from the 80's. If you'd like to stay in the Gundam universe, I'd recommend 8th MS Team. It's set during the first series and through the eyes of the rank and file grunts. It will help clarify Gundam vs. Mobile Suit. Plus, I think they have a Guntank in the squad.
Thanks for “It belongs to Kosovo”. I needed a belly laugh.
So many choice Turkey zingers this time around. I’d listen to a bonus that’s just Joe brutally slagging on the Turks.
Turkish lasagna is burek (aka spanikopita the Greeks and Turks are still mad about the whole colonialism/partition/ genocide thing).
Oh the Liam beep came back.
They really channeled the spirit of Liam with the amount of beeps
Recommendations for the next LLBR series: either The Big O (because the name makes me giggle and Steven Blum is a treasure) or Medabots (Pokemon meets robots).
This show was made before the Hong Kong handover, so the intention was that HK would be its own nation. But the fact that it's brought up in this show in this fashion is interesting. Add that to the British fighter being an old man past his prime being kept alive on steroids, this show has some interesting colonial undercurrents thar most people don't get because of the crazy shit going on in the show. It's why I'm glad you guys are going through it, plus you won't be ready for Neo Iraq's name for its Gundam. Post Gulf War btw.
It's been over ten years since I last read it, but The Wind Up Bird Chronicle is one of my favorite books. Murakami writing about food will never not tickle me. It's so lovingly described.
Lions led by Mishima when?
Lions Led By Schoolgirls: Girls Und Panzer when?
Mobile suit is like saying Car or truck. A Gundam is the model, like a Dodge Charger. A Charger is a car, but not all cars are Chargers. All Gundam are mobile suits, but not all mobile suits are gundams.
Okay, So for ghost stories, while the Manga was popular the anime bombed. The company then decided to skimp on the dub and paid the dubbing company a tiny amount of money to do the Job. Lacking other options they decided to have fun with it and did it all over the course of like a week. The result is the first abridged anime series
Like iirc the dub company didn't even get a script to translate
Really appreciate that the Turkish part of the podcast sounds like an early 2000s Walmart cut of an Eminem CD
Ps, quit beating around the bush and do some 40k shit where you talk about how stupid the lore is with the zoo crew
If they made this today, there's a non-zero chance the Neo-Egypt pilot would be a Hotep
Joe refusing the call to talk about Gundam
You only get Gundam Mummies when your Enginseer screws up The Prima Incubatora. They're clearly inexperienced and should be sent back to your local forge world for servitude imperpituis and replacement with an acolyte more learned in the rites of such venerable god engines
If memory serves, a mobile suit is any giant fighting robot, it's only a gundam if it's made from Gundanium alloy
I think that’s right
