This has gotten a funny under current post Iran War. "If you wanted to win you just hole up for 2-3 days and eventually the US Army will shoot itself into surrender".
The fear mongering and petty cruelty that the Reagan administration did and the American people fell for is the exact same as that of the Trump administration and what modern Americans fall for. The United States is incapable of change. I hate this country with every fiber of my being.
I once smoked weed in a Winnebago with a guy that was in the rangers at Grenada. I watched him jam a whole unground nug in his hand carved wood pipe. He lit the pipe with large puffs the way that you would light tobacco. After getting it going he passed it around the table. It was raining outside and Rush Limbaugh was on the radio.
Well the coordinating through an unencrypted phone didn’t age well
RIP Jimmy Carter
As someone with an inordinate amount of Civ hours I appreciate the Civ refs so much 😂 😭
Whenever I hear Grenada I think of that one sketch with Bill Hader and the puppets
Finally got a chance to listen to this. Overall a fun summary, but would really advise the crew to read some Grenadan sources on the invasion. It is regarded positively in grenada, a ton of people in grenada still love reagan for this invasion.
You joke about Jewel upsetting christian evangelists, but in 2003 she tried to go full Britney Spears pop with "0304" in ways that absolutely would have rubbed them the wrong way.
My dad was one of the rangers that got sent to Grenada. He said it was both a shit show that the military learned a lot of lessons from, but also one of the best moments of his life. He said the locals were generally very happy to see the troops, which is substantiated by the fact that Grenada to this day has a holiday called Thanksgiving day, marking the date of the invasion.
Imperialism forever
*3 helicopters crash into an empty barracks* The Codex Astartes names this maneuver STEEL RAIN https://youtu.be/LJMLfACod48?t=123
One of those Rangers who got lost and subsequently got GOT grew up across the street from me in the 80's, YIKES
Turning me off wanting to ride in helicopters forever.
10 thousand moving parts looking for a place to crash. I used to do tourist heli shit. Not religious but prayed everytime I had to go.
To be fair, Gairy was accused of "rigging" Miss World, just because a black woman from Grenada won and another black woman placed second.
Green Bay mentioned!
Reagan is Slaanesh is CURSED AF. Thanks, Joe
is it just me or does nate’s voice sound slightly different on every podcast he’s on? there’s like 5 different possible nate voices and you never know which one you’re going to get
A man of many voices.
I caught the dancehall music reference. Is Tom aware that Reggaetón source material/inspiration came from Jamaica? Reggaetón started as Reggae dancehall music but in Spanish around the late 80s and early 90s. It was brought to and developed it's own identity in Panama. The 90s saw it get big in places, as underground music, like Puerto Rico.
Joe we demand the return of Nick
That was great! When you do the Panama series, I put together a Spotify playlist of all the songs that were played during the siege of the nuncio’s residence - Operation Nifty Package.
Lol heartbreak ridge episode.
Really enjoying the thick and succulent 90 minute episodes
Dude!! Bring back Liam! And Francis! Shocks!! 🤙🏼🤣👍🏼
Freaking me out Joe!! That’s 2 times I’ve been like “would love LLBD to do Submarine fuck ups ( USS Thresher) and Grenada 🇬🇩 or Panama 🇵🇦 … wtf Joe?! Hell ya! 🤙🏼
Panama would be great at some point. My father was stationed there and was part of Operation Just Cause. I was born there too.
