Creep is just a 1700s pirate trapped in a soldiers body

I was in the British Army, Royal Engineers. We had one of these creatures in a sister unit. He'd never wash, and to make it so much worse, he'd always wear those awful goretex waterproof trousers, the ones where just looking at them gives you unimaginable ballsweat. You can imagine the aura of stank.

A shame creep couldn’t be put on mine clearing duty.

"Well this creep fellow seems like a real scumbag, but he's probably some kid who enlisted to get away from home" [Joe mentions he's 29] "... Jesus christ bud"

I can't help but wonder if your first-hand experience with dysentery makes you uniquely qualified among other history podcasters in giving full, visceral context in all its horrible detail.

I like to think all the pauses this chapter was Joe reliving the wonderful moments with Creep in his memories

Enjoying these, I read the book a few months ago but it's cool to hear you go through it and occasionally reflect on what's different (or, the same) since then. I've noticed, though, that they're going up unedited, it seems? There's often line re-takes and notes to Tom in there. I don't really care, it's kinda fun, but I'd assume unintentional?
