Donald Fraiser. Blood and Treasure: Confederate Empire in the Southwest

Just joined the Patreon, and this is the Bonus Episode I've most been looking forward to. I've reenacted the Union side of these battles multiple times at Civil War in the Southwest.
Lancers in the American civil war isn't as crazy as the lancers in WW1 - there was actually a lance vs lance battle in 1914!
My family is from not too far from the Glorieta Pass battlefield. One of my ancestors fought the Confederates alongside Kit Carson
That鈥檚 rad! My 3x great grandfather fought with Carson too and retired a major
The horses knew what they were doing, they defected.
I know this is coming way late, and idk if you still read the comments this far back (the reorganization made me realize I missed this episode when it released), but the bit about time traveling to join Mexico in the Mexican American War reminded me that interesting aside to definitely mention when you get to the Mexican American War series is the St Patricks Battalion, which was a group of mostly Irish immigrants who had a moment of conscious and defected from the US Army to fight for Mexico. They are still commemorated in both Mexico and Ireland, and also the subject of a banger folk song by David Rovics lol.
Arizona delenda est.
I grew up in Arizona, and Liam is 100% right. Having lived through a Tucson summer without AC, Phoenix is just not livable without AC. Phoenix is I think the worst urban sprawl I've had to deal with.
Great episode. Got me wondering, have you thought of doing an ep on the US Camel Corp? It鈥檚 in the same region and it鈥檚 one of those things that鈥檚 a dumb idea that actually worked and was only not implemented due to the civil war
Me listening to Joe's Arizona take from M茅xico: 贸rale pues 馃槑馃嚥馃嚱
chekhov's lancers
Always fun to hear you shit talk the Confederacy. Even growing up in damn Idaho, so far north we might as well be Canada and not even a state during the Civil War, I had a teacher shoving lost cause myths down our throats, and a couple different dudes rolling around town with Confederate flags on their trucks.
I've seen a lot of Confederate flags in Springfield, Illinois, the city where Abraham Lincoln might as well be a deity.
Those motherfuckers were playing bloodgulch/coagulation. Why are we in the valley? The people we shot are in the valley.
Some would say the confederacy is still in Texas.
Arizona Tea has lasted longer than Confederate Arizona. Which is to say $0.99 cans if tea is my culture. And Confederate sympathizers can suck it and die in a hole.
Examples of native tribes in the Southwest (besides the Apache) are the Navajo, the Pueblo peoples, Pima and Mojave.
Don't forget the Hualapai
The great thing about nuance is that it only requires diverse viewpoints, not balanced ones. Every Confederate featured on this show is a slightly different flavour of idiotic shitbag loser, so it's very nuanced.
Great episode
